Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
Before you change this recipe, read through these notes. They will keep your dog safe.
First, make sure your broth is free of onions and garlic. Homemade broth is ideal. Simply boil beef or chicken with bones in water until it develops a rich flavor. See my recipes for dog-safe bone broth and beef broth.
Ground beef can easily be replaced with chicken, turkey, or lamb to suit your dog’s taste or dietary needs.
Peas and carrots can be substituted with any vegetables dogs can eat. Be sure to cook them first.
Don’t have rice flour on hand? Make your own by blending uncooked rice in a blender or food processor until fine.

I just discovered your website. I have enjoyed the articles I’ve read and look forward to making some of your recipes. I have 2 Irish wolfhounds. They are both very spoiled and picky eaters. Can you recommend recipes or foods good for joints and inflammation?
Foods that are great for supporting a dog’s joints and reducing inflammation often include those rich in anti-inflammatory compounds, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and glucosamine. Some options are fatty fish (like salmon or mackerel), blueberries (in moderation), turmeric (see my golden paste recipe), gelatin, and homemade bone broth (I have recipes for it too).
Thank you for the recipes
