Why You Will Love This Recipe

There are so many reasons these hearty biscuits will become a favorite in your kitchen and your dog’s snack time.

Easy to Make – The dough comes together quickly and only a few easy steps.

Simple Ingredients – These biscuits are made with ingredients you can easily find at most grocery stores.

Customizable – You can swap ingredients to fit your dog’s taste preferences or dietary needs.

Economical – Making treats at home is often much less expensive than buying specialty dog treats from a pet store.

Flavors Dogs Love – Bacon, eggs, and cheese are a winning combination.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

These biscuits use simple ingredients that work together to create flavorful and crunchy treats. This is what you’ll need:

  • Bacon – Adds a savory flavor and aroma dogs love.
  • Eggs – Help bind the dough together and add protein.
  • Cheddar Cheese – Adds rich flavor and makes the treats extra enticing.
  • Spinach – Adds nutrients and gives it a veggie touch.
  • Oat Flour – Forms the base of the biscuits, adds fiber, and is easily digestible.
  • Baking Powder – Helps create a lighter texture.
  • Water – Helps bring the dough together.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

Just some extra info on a few of the ingredients, along with easy substitutions.

Bacon – Use turkey bacon for a lower-fat option.

Cheddar Cheese – Swap with mozzarella, Colby jack, or Swiss cheese. Use low-fat cheese if your dog requires a lower-fat diet.

Spinach – Swap with kale or broccoli.

Baking Powder – Is safe for dogs in small amounts. Source: Petco

Oat Flour – You can make oat flour by blending old-fashioned rolled oats in a blender or food processor until it has a flour consistency. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.

Flour Substitutions – You can substitute oat flour with brown rice flour, all-purpose flour, or a 50-50 combination of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Because whole wheat flour is denser, it’s not a good substitute to use by itself. Flour substitutes may affect the dough, so start with less and add as needed.

How to Make Breakfast Dog Biscuits

Making these savory dog treats is simple and requires only a few basic steps. Here’s what to do:

  1. Cook the bacon until crispy and chop it into small pieces.
  2. Scramble one of the eggs.
  3. Squeeze excess liquid from the thawed spinach.
  4. Place the oat flour, baking powder, scrambled egg, cheese, bacon, and spinach in a large bowl and stir to combine.
  5. Add the remaining egg and water. Stir until a dough forms.
  6. Place the dough on parchment paper and roll it out to your desired thickness.
  7. Cut out shapes using a cookie cutter. Gather scraps, re-roll, and continue cutting until all the dough is used.
  8. Place the cutouts on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely on the baking sheet.

For longer storage, freeze them for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. Give one a try and see if you like it.
