Why Make a Dog Carrot Cake?
Human carrot cakes are not good for dogs. They have a high sugar level and dogs shouldn’t consume any sugary food. It’s important to maintain a good blood sugar level in dogs. Otherwise, dogs can develop diabetes.
They also have toxic ingredients including spices and flavor extracts. The alcohol content of real vanilla extract is one of the reasons it is unsafe for dogs.
The most common frosting on carrot cake is cream cheese frosting. It’s loaded with fat which is not good for the canine stomach. It can also cause weight gain and you don’t want your dog to become obese.
Human carrot cake can cause an adverse reaction in dogs. A dog may experience serious gastrointestinal discomfort or upset stomach. This is why it is best to make a carrot cake with dog-friendly ingredients.

If you want peanut butter frosting, you can simply use unsweetened peanut butter or a mixture of peanut butter and yogurt. Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, an artificial sweetener toxic to dogs.

- Stir until the wet ingredient mixture is smooth and fully combined.

- Remove the cakes from the pans and cool them on a wire rack.
- Frost the cakes with Greek yogurt. Stack them if you want a layer cake.

To make muffins or carrot cupcakes for dogs, bake the cake batter in a muffin tin. You can make regular-sized muffins or use a mini muffin pan for mini carrot cake treats. Reduce the baking time so you don’t over-bake them.
Serving Size
How much dog cake should you give your dog at once? It depends on the size of your dog and what else you gave your pet to eat that day. This might be a healthy dog cake, but too much of it is not a good thing.
Treats should not make up the majority of your dog’s calorie intake. They should be something they eat on rare occasions, along with healthy dog foods.
Dogs shouldn’t overeat too many carbohydrates – even healthy ones from oats and applesauce.
For this reason, do not let your dog eat the whole cake at one time. I suggest only giving your spoiled hound only one small piece of this dog-safe carrot cake. If you have a really small dog, then a slice from a single layer.
How to Store
Wrap the dog-friendly cake with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. If it’s unfrosted you can store it at room temperature. If it’s frosted it must be stored in the refrigerator.
For extended storage, you can freeze it. Thaw it in the fridge if frosted or on the counter if unfrosted.
How long does this dog carrot cake last?
How long it lasts depends on if you use yogurt for the frosting. Yogurt will spoil faster than any of the other ingredients.
This dog cake with yogurt frosting should last up to 5 days in the fridge.
The cake without yogurt frosting will last for 5 days on the counter or 7 days in the fridge.
If frozen, the cake will last for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Can you eat this dog carrot cake?
Sure thing, you can eat this cake! All of the ingredients are human food and safe for human consumption. But I doubt you would enjoy it. I suggest making a regular carrot cake to enjoy and share with family and friends.
