The oatmeal dog cake recipe is just a little further below. First, here’s more about a couple of the ingredients and why I chose to use them.
Benefits of Oats for Dogs
Did you know that oats have a lot of healthy nutrients? That’s why dog treats with oats are a great thing to make for your fur baby! These treats are gluten-free, so you can give them to your pet if they have issues with wheat.
Oats have vitamin B which helps your pet maintain a healthy coat. It’s also a good source of omega-6 fatty acids that helps keep a dog’s skin strong and healthy.
Oats have soluble fiber in them. The fiber will help them regulate glucose levels and give them relief if they are having trouble pooping.
Benefits of Pumpkin for Dogs
I use pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, in this recipe. It’s best to keep the amount of added sugar low when you make a dog cake or dog treats. Dogs do not need any extra sugar in their diet, and these are sweet enough without it. Also, pumpkin pie filling may contain spices toxic to dogs.
Pumpkin is one of the healthiest ingredients in this doggie cake. It is high in vitamin A, fiber, and disease-preventing antioxidants.

Ingredient and Recipe Notes
When you make this simple no bake dog cake, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, a sweetener that is toxic to dogs. Use natural peanut butter with no added sugar.
Want to make a no bake dog cake without peanut butter? Substitute sunflower seed butter or almond butter for the peanut butter. Do not use any nut or seed butter that contains xylitol.
Instead of canned, you can use homemade pumpkin puree. The canned just speeds up the process for this DIY dog cake. Make sure it is plain without any added sugar or spices.
Want to make this dog cake without pumpkin? Substitute baked or boiled sweet potato puree for the pumpkin puree.
If you can’t find or don’t have oat flour, you can easily make some. Place a cup of dry oats in a blender or food processor and blend until they reach a flour consistency. You can also substitute chickpea flour for oat flour.
Serving Size
How much dog cake should you give your dog at once? It depends on the size of your dog and what else you gave your pet to eat that day. This might be a healthy dog cake, but too much of it is not a good thing.
Treats should not make up the majority of your dog’s calorie intake. They should be something they eat on rare occasions, along with healthy dog foods.
Dogs shouldn’t overeat too many carbohydrates – even healthy ones from oatmeal and pumpkin.
For this reason, do not let your dog eat the whole cake at one time. I suggest only giving your spoiled hound only one small slice in a small bowl. If you have a really small dog, then a slice from a single layer.
