Why You Will Love This Recipe

There’s nothing quite like making homemade treats for your pup. And when these apple and pumpkin dog treats are baking, your pup may just be sitting patiently by the oven, tail wagging, and nose in the air. Here’s why they’re sure to become a go-to recipe:

Wholesome Ingredients – You won’t find any weird fillers or mystery stuff, just real, recognizable ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Easy to Make – These are drop-style dog cookies, so there’s no rolling or cutting needed. Just scoop, shape, and bake.

Soft with Chunks of Apple – The texture is soft and chewy with little bites of fresh apple throughout. They’re perfect for pups who prefer tender treats.

Save Money – Homemade treats cost a whole lot less than those fancy boutique bags at the pet store.

Perfect for Fall – Pumpkin and apple are a classic fall combo, and your dog will love the seasonal flavors just as much as you do.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

These dog cookies are made with simple ingredients that come together to create a soft, flavorful treat:

  • Pumpkin Purée – A great source of fiber and flavor that gives these treats their signature fall feel.
  • Apple – Fresh apple adds sweetness and fruity goodness.
  • Egg – Helps bind the dough and gives the treats structure.
  • Coconut Milk – Adds moisture and richness while being dairy-free.
  • Oat Flour – A gentle, gluten-free flour that’s easy for dogs to digest.
  • Baking Powder – Just a bit helps these cookies rise and make them airy.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are some simple swaps and additions you can make:

Always use plain pumpkin purée. Do not use pumpkin pie filling because it may contain spices that are harmful to dogs. You can use store-bought or make your own with this homemade pumpkin puree for dogs recipe.

You can make oat flour by blending rolled oats in a food processor or blender until fine. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.

If needed, you can use all-purpose flour or a mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour instead of oat flour. Avoid using only whole wheat flour because it’s too dense on its own.

How to Make Pumpkin Apple Dog Treats

These soft pumpkin and apple dog cookies are quick and easy to make. Here’s what to do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Peel, core, and remove the seeds from the apple. Dice it into small pieces and place them in a medium bowl.
  3. Add pumpkin purée, coconut milk, and egg to the bowl with the apple and stir to combine.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the oat flour and baking powder.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop out equal amounts of dough using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, then shape them into cookies with your hands.
  7. Place the shaped treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes.
  8. Let the treats cool completely before removing them from the baking sheet.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last up to 5 days.

For longer storage, you can freeze the treats in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for people. While they’re not sweet like traditional cookies, they’re a nice little snack and great for anyone cutting back on sugar.
