The Best Things About Air Fryer Dog Treats

Have you ever been using your air fryer and look down only to find your fur baby begging with those sad little eyes? Well, now you can make treats for your pup in the air fryer!

Not only does giving your pet an air-fried treat make it feel like they are sharing treat time with you, but they are actually good for your puppy too. These tasty treats are made with apples, bananas, and oat flour – all of which are fantastic for your pet’s health.

And you get the benefit of having an incredible aroma fill your home when you air fry apple flavored dog treats. It’s almost the same smell that happens when baking an apple pie!

Benefits of Apples

This apple dog treats recipe is full of nutrients. Apples are vitamin rich including vitamin C which will help boost your pet’s immune system. They are also a fantastic source of fiber, which may help them stay regular.

Another wonderful thing about apples in this air fried dog treat recipe is that they add natural sweetness without needing to add any sugar or sweetener. Apples make the best tasting dog treats!

Benefits of Bananas

Bananas are another ingredient in this dog treat recipe. They contain essential vitamins and are really high in potassium, which fortifies their muscles and is fantastic for their heart health.

They also make the donuts taste sweet without increasing the calorie amounts too much. Plus, they have plenty of fiber which is great for a healthy digestive system.

Benefits of Oat Flour

Did you know that oats have lots of healthy nutrients too? That’s why dog treats with oat flour are a great thing to make your furry friend! These treats are gluten-free, so you can give them to your dog if they have issues with wheat.

Oats contain vitamin B which helps maintain a healthy coat. It’s a good source of omega-6 fatty acids that helps keep a dog’s skin healthy and strong.

Oats have soluble fiber which helps them regulate glucose levels and give them relief if they are having trouble pooping.

Air Fryer Dog Treats Recipe Ingredients

The entire list of ingredients and the step-by-step directions are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this article. First, I want to share some additional information about the ingredients I used in these crunchy dog treats.

Here’s a list of what you need for these treats. You must use organic ingredients if you want to make organic dog treats for your best friend.

  • Oat Flour – This is the best gluten-free flour that maintains the shape without falling apart.
  • Baking Soda – This gives the treats a light texture. Without it, they will be very dense.
  • Apple – All types of apples will work in this recipe. Use whatever variety you have on hand.
  • Applesauce – Use unsweetened applesauce so that it doesn’t add any extra calories or sugar.
  • Banana – Since you will be mixing it into the batter, make sure the banana is very ripe.
  • Coconut Oil – This gives the gourmet dog treat some healthy fats. You can use avocado oil instead if you don’t have coconut oil.
  • Egg – Any sized egg will work nicely in this recipe.

If you want to make dog treat icing, you’ll need:

  • Greek Yogurt – Use unsweetened Greek yogurt. It has lots of protein and calcium.
  • Peanut Butter – Use natural creamy peanut butter because it is the healthiest choice. If your pup is allergic to peanuts, use any type of nut or seed butter such as sun butter.

Ingredient Notes

When you make this easy dog treats recipe, here are a few things to keep in mind.

To make your own oat flour, place 2 cups of oatmeal (old-fashioned rolled oats) into a blender or food processor. Blend until it has a powder consistency.

If you want to use whole wheat flour instead of oat flour, note the amount will have to be adjusted. Use 1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour.

Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol. It is a sweetener that is toxic to dogs. It is best to use natural unsweetened peanut butter. Check the label on the container to be sure.

Serving Size

How many homemade air fryer dog treats should you give your dog at once? One is plenty. Definitely a portion of one for smaller dogs. These treats are large so be mindful of how much you include in your dog’s diet.

Dogs shouldn’t overeat, either with dog food or homemade treats. It’s not good for them to consume too many carbohydrates or calories. It is important to keep a dog at a healthy weight. For this reason, I suggest only giving your spoiled hound one per day.

Equipment Needed

You probably have most of the kitchen items you need to make these apple dog treats. But just in case, here’s a list of them:

  • Air Fryer
  • Measuring Cups
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Silicone Paw Print Mold – one that fits in your air fryer basket or air fryer tray
  • Wire Cooling Rack

How to Store Air Fryer Dog Treatss

How you store air-fried dog treats depends on how you made them – with or without icing.

If you put icing on top of the treats, store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container. The Greek yogurt needs to be refrigerated. It will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Air-fried dog treats without icing should be stored in an air-tight container at room temperature. They will stay fresh this way for a couple weeks (if they last that long).

Can humans eat these dog treats?

Oh yes, they sure can! All the ingredients in these treats for dogs are safe for human consumption. But people probably won’t like them because they are not sweet. I suggest making some air fryer apple oatmeal cookies for people.
