Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

This blueberry cheesecake uses simple ingredients that come together to create a creamy dessert your dog will love. This is what you’ll need:

For the crust:

• Old-fashioned oats – Form the base of the crust and provide texture and fiber.
• Unsweetened shredded coconut – Adds flavor and a slightly chewy texture.
• Ground cinnamon – Adds a warm flavor.
• Egg – Helps bind the crust together.
• Coconut oil – Adds healthy fats and helps the crust hold together.
• Honey – Adds a touch of natural sweetness.

For the filling:

• Cream cheese – Creates a rich and creamy texture.
• Cottage cheese – Adds protein and helps lighten the filling.
• Plain Greek yogurt – Adds creaminess and tang.
• Egg – Helps the filling set while baking.
• Coconut milk – Adds moisture and a smooth consistency.
• Oat flour – Helps thicken the filling.
• Blueberries – Provide natural sweetness and flavor.

For the glaze and topping

• Unflavored gelatin – Creates a light glaze that sets on top.
• Water – Used to prepare the gelatin.
• Blueberries – Add flavor and make a colorful topping.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

There are a few important things to keep in mind when making this recipe, along with some simple swaps you can make.

Use low-fat versions of cream cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, and coconut milk if your dog requires a lower-fat diet.

Blueberries can be swapped with raspberries or strawberries.

You can make oat flour by blending old-fashioned rolled oats in a blender or food processor until it has a flour consistency. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.

You can substitute oat flour with brown rice flour, all-purpose flour, or a 50-50 combination of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Because whole wheat flour is denser, it’s not a good substitute to use by itself. Note that flour substitutes may affect the texture.

How to Make Blueberry Cheesecake for Dogs

Making this cheesecake is simple and just takes a few steps to prepare each layer.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a food processor, combine the oats, coconut, and cinnamon and process until crumbly. Add the egg, melted coconut oil, and honey and process until a dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough in half and press each portion evenly into the bottom of two 4-inch springform pans.
  4. Bake the crusts for 10 minutes, then allow them to cool completely.
  5. In a food processor, combine the cream cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, egg, coconut milk, and oat flour. Process until smooth.
  6. Pour equal amounts of the filling over the cooled crusts.
  7. Fill a large baking dish or roasting pan with about ½ inch of water and place the springform pans into the water.
  8. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, then remove from the oven and allow the cheesecakes to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, pour the cold water and sprinkle the gelatin over it. Stir to combine.
  10. Heat the remaining water until almost boiling, then add it to the gelatin mixture and stir until dissolved.
  11. Let the mixture sit until it thickens slightly but is still pourable. You can place it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to speed this up.
  12. Remove the cheesecakes from the pans. Place blueberries on top and pour the glaze over them.

How to Store the Cheesecake and How Long It Lasts

Wrap the cheesecake tightly in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. It will last up to 5 days in the refrigerator.

For longer storage, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil. It will last up to 3 months in the freezer. Thaw in the fridge overnight.

Can people eat this cheesecake?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. It’s great for those watching their sugar intake. Try a piece and see if you like it.

Serving Amount

Treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s daily calories. Consult your vet if you are unsure of the portion size for your dog.

Because this is a higher-fat treat, a small slice is recommended.

If your dog hasn’t had any of these ingredients before, start with a small piece to make sure they don’t have any allergies, sensitivities, or adverse reactions.
