Why This Frozen Dogs Treats Recipe is the Best

Does your furry friend beg for your food as you eat it? Mine does too! Sometimes it’s fun to share your food with them, especially when it’s good for them. That’s the beauty of these easy homemade frozen dog treats. They are delicious and good for both you and your fur baby.

Making healthy frozen treats for dogs has never been easier. There are just three simple ingredients so all you do is puree them, freeze them, and then they are ready to eat.

Sometimes it can be tough to find dairy free frozen dog treats or frozen dog treats without peanut butter, but when you make them homemade, all the guess and worry is gone. These healthy treats are perfect for dogs with food sensitivities.

They are naturally sweetened with fruit so there’s no need to be concerned about a sweet treat with an artificial sweetener that may be toxic to dogs.

Benefits of Berries for Dogs

It’s best for your pup to get all their nutrition from their dog food, but these treats are a fun way to eat a few more vitamins.

Berries are full of vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber. If your dog has never eaten a berry before, I suggest only giving them a little bit for the first time. They will probably be able to eat them without any issues, but it is always a great idea to watch just in case.

Benefits of Coconut Milk for Dogs

Coconut milk is a great way to boost the nutrition in homemade dog treat recipes. It is full of healthy fats and essential amino acids that is good for your dog’s skin, fur, and brain.

Recipe Ingredients

There are only natural ingredients in these frozen treats for dogs. Everything is easy to find at the grocery store. In fact, you might already have everything in your refrigerator.

Here’s the list of what you need:

  • Blueberries – Fresh or frozen
  • Strawberries – Fresh or frozen
  • Lite Coconut Milk – Dairy Free and Low Fat

Yep, a simple 3 ingredient frozen dog treats recipe! And it’s really a 2 or 1 ingredient dog treat depending on the flavor.

Ingredient Substitutions

You can substitute the lite coconut milk with low-fat plain Greek yogurt. Note they will no longer be dairy-free.

You can substitute the berries with any fruit dogs can eat. Here are some ideas:

  • Apple
  • Banana
  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Watermelon

Frozen Fruit Dog Treats

A frozen treat is a great option on a hot summer day because it helps your pet cool down and stay hydrated. In the recipe card at the bottom of this post, I will share three different ways to make these homemade dog treats.

If your dog likes Frosty Paws, then they will love these too!

Frozen Blueberry Dog Treats

Blueberries are a super-healthy ingredient for dogs. If your pet has white fur, it might stain it, so watch out for that.

Frozen Strawberry Dog Treats

Strawberries are naturally sweet and the perfect way to share a refreshing treat with your pup.

Frozen Coconut Milk Dog Treats

Or, skip the fruit and just make some simple coconut milk treats. These frozen treats for dogs are low in sugar and fantastic if your pup is struggling with their weight.

4th of July Dog Treats

These red white and blue dog treats are great for celebrating July 4th! They are one of my favorite frozen dog treats for summer, especially with the patriotic colors.

Serving Size

The recipe will yield approximately 50 treats when made using small bone-shaped molds. That equates to about 15 calories for one treat.

The serving amount can vary depending on the size of your dog and how many calories per day you feed your dog between dog food and treats. Big dogs can consume more calories than smaller dogs.

I recommend giving a small dog only one of these frozen treats and up to 3 for larger dogs.

Equipment Needed

This is what I used to make these DIY frozen dog treats. They made the entire process a breeze.

  • 2-cup Liquid Measuring Cup
  • Dry Measuring Cups
  • Blender
  • Small Silicone Dog Treat Molds or Small Ice Cube Trays

You can also use small paper cups or plastic shot glasses to make the treats.

How to Make Frozen Dog Treats

Here are the steps for making this recipe for frozen dog treats. All the exact steps are in the printable recipe card at the end of this post.

  1. Divide the coconut milk into three equal parts, about 9 ounces each.
  2. For the strawberry treats, add one 9-ounce part of coconut milk and 1 cup of strawberries to a blender or food processor and blend well. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays.

How to Store Frozen Dog Treats

After the treats have frozen, remove them from the molds and place them in a plastic freezer bag or freezer-safe airtight container. Store the treats in the freezer.

How Long Do Frozen Dog Treats Last?

These homemade frozen dog treats will last up to 4 months in the freezer. Make a big batch of ice treats for dogs and let them eat them all summer.

Can Humans Eat These Frozen Dog Treats?

Yes, absolutely! Make a double batch so you have some for people and some for dogs. Use silicone molds in different shapes when making the ones for people. This way, everyone will know the bone or paw-shaped ones are for dogs.

  • For the strawberry treats, add 9 ounces of coconut milk and 1 cup strawberries to a blender and blend well. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
  • For the blueberry treats, add 9 ounces of coconut milk and 1 cup blueberries to a blender and blend well. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
  • For the coconut treats, pour the remaining coconut milk into silicone molds or ice cube trays.
  • Freeze for approximately 2 hours or until hard.
