Wholesome Ingredients – These treats are made with simple, real food you probably already have in your kitchen. No mystery ingredients or additives – just chicken, broccoli, rice, egg, and flour.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

You’ll only need a few simple ingredients to make this recipe, and each one has a role in the mix:

  • Cooked Chicken – A great source of protein and gives a meaty flavor dogs love.
  • Broccoli – Full of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins A, C, and K.
  • Brown Rice – Adds fiber and essential amino acids, vitamins, and nutrients.
  • Egg – Adds protein and essential fatty acids, and binds the dough.
  • Oat Flour – An easily digestible flour for dogs.

Equipment Needed

You may have all the kitchen items to make the treats. Most folks have a sharp knife, cutting board, measuring cups, mixing bowls, and baking sheets. The only specialty ones are a food processor and silicone dog treat molds.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are some things to keep in mind and simple swaps you can make:

Broccoli – You can use fresh or frozen broccoli. If using frozen, make sure it’s thawed. Stems and crowns both work!

Chicken – Use plain cooked chicken with no seasonings. You can also substitute turkey or lamb if needed.

Brown Rice – White rice works too, but brown rice adds more fiber and nutrition.

Oat Flour – Easily make it by blending uncooked oats in a blender or food processor. One cup of oats yields about ¾ cup of flour.

Flour Substitutes – You can use all-purpose flour or a 50/50 mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Avoid using just whole wheat (too dense) and skip coconut flour (soaks up too much liquid).

How to Make Chicken and Broccoli Dog Treats

These treats come together quickly and bake up beautifully in silicone molds. Here’s what to do:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the chicken, brown rice, oat flour, and egg in a food processor. Pulse until combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the chopped broccoli.
  4. Spoon the mixture into silicone molds set on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until set and lightly golden.
  6. Let the treats cool completely before removing from the molds.

For longer storage, you can freeze the treats in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for humans. Think of them as a savory snack. Give one a nibble and you might be surprised!
