Ingredients
These green dog treats are made with fresh, wholesome ingredients your pup will enjoy. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Spinach: Provides a natural green color and is loaded with iron, vitamins, and antioxidants.
- Parsley: Known for its breath-freshening properties and rich in vitamins A and C.
- Mint: Adds a cooling, fresh flavor and supports good oral hygiene.
- Spirulina powder: A superfood that’s high in protein, antioxidants, and nutrients.
- Oat flour: A gentle, gluten-free option that’s easy to digest.
- Egg: Binds the ingredients together and adds protein.
- Coconut oil: Provides healthy fats for a shiny coat.
- Water: Helps bring the dough together for easy rolling.

Equipment Needed
You probably have all the kitchen items needed to make the treats. You can use any cookie cutter but 4 leaf clover cookie cutters make them super cute and festive.
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
This recipe is easy to tweak based on what you have on hand:
Oat flour: You can make your own by blending uncooked old-fashioned oats until finely ground. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.
Flour substitutes: Use rice flour, all-purpose flour, or a mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Avoid using just whole wheat flour, as it’s too dense.
Coconut flour: Not recommended, as it absorbs too much moisture and will make the dough too dry.
How to Make St. Patrick’s Day Dog Treats
These treats are simple to make and fun to customize with festive shapes:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Use a blender or food processor to combine the spinach and egg until smooth.
- In a large bowl, combine the oat flour, parsley, mint, spirulina, coconut oil, and spinach-egg mixture. Mix until evenly distributed.
- Stir in water a little at a time until the mixture forms a rollable dough.
- Roll the dough out on parchment paper or a lightly floured surface to ¼–⅓ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes, re-rolling and cutting until all the dough is used.
- Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes.
- Let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Serving Size
Treats are a fun addition to your dog’s diet, but they should be given in moderation. Treats should not exceed 10% of your dog’s daily calorie intake.
You can use smaller or larger cookie cutters to make treats that are best suited for your dog’s size.
As always, start with small amounts when introducing new foods to ensure there are no adverse reactions. If you’re unsure, consult your veterinarian.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last
Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
For extended storage, freeze the treats in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 3 months. You can either thaw them before serving or give them as a frozen treat.
Can people eat these treats?
Yes! All the ingredients in these treats are human-safe. While they’re designed for dogs, you’re welcome to try one. Just remember they’re tailored to canine taste buds and might not be as flavorful to you.
