Make this whipped cream for dogs so that you can share treats with your pup while still taking care of their health.
As much as we want to, we shouldn’t share our whipped cream with our pets. Lots of dogs have problems digesting dairy – and whipped cream has way too much sugar in it too.
In this guide, I’ll explain the difference between whipped cream for humans and my dog-friendly whipped cream recipe. Plus, I’ll share my recipe with you too.

Why Homemade Whipped Cream is the Best for Dogs
Before we get to the recipe, I want to answer a very important question about dogs and whipped cream.
No, dogs should not eat whipped cream. Dairy is a problem for most dogs. Your pet might be lactose intolerant or allergic, so it’s best to just keep them away from it entirely.
Giving dogs whipped cream is also a bad idea because it has way too much sugar in it. Dogs should not eat anything with added sugar, especially if they are already overweight.
I go into much more detail about this topic in my helpful article, “can you give a dog whipped cream?”
Whipped Coconut Cream for Dogs
When you want to share a bowl of whipped cream with your pet, my recipe is the safest and healthiest one you should use.
There’s just one ingredient in this amazing whip cream recipe. Yep, one simple thing:
- Coconut Cream
Healthy, unsweetened coconut cream you can find in your grocery store’s Asian food section.
Do not confuse it with the sweet cream of coconut that folks use to make Pina Coladas.
This stuff comes in a can and is unsweetened. You’ll use it to make the best coconut whipped cream your dog has ever eaten.
Benefits of Coconut Cream
The only time whipped cream is good for dogs is when they are enjoying a bit of this dog-safe whipped cream.
Coconut has lots of health benefits for dogs. It is full of healthy fats. These healthy fats will help your dog have a shinier coat, healthier skin, and even help them burn more fat.
It’s also said that it can help your dog’s digestion and even aid in improving cognitive function. How cool is that? All from a whipped cream dog treat!
Is Coconut Cream Safe for Dogs
Before I show you how to make whipped cream for dogs, I want to answer one very important question about its safety. Can dogs have coconut whipped cream?
For the most part, this is a very safe treat. There are always variables, so this is what you should watch out for.
Depending on your dog’s size and how well they handle new foods, watch out for any loose stools or diarrhea. Coconut cream’s high-fat content might change your dog’s poop and give them an urgency to go.
If your dog hasn’t had whipped cream with coconut cream before, give them a small amount first and see how they handle it.
How long does whipped coconut cream last?
Coconut whipped cream will keep for up to 2 weeks. Keep it covered while storing it in the fridge.
Serving Size
You should not give your dog a bowl of whipped cream. It’s just too much fat. Instead, a dollop of whipped cream is the best serving size.
Equipment Needed for Whipped Coconut Cream
You may have the kitchen items you need to make whipped cream for dogs. But just in case, here’s what you need:
- Mixing Bowl – because a plate just won’t work (LOL)
- Spoon – for getting the coconut cream out of the can and scooping it out of the mixing bowl once it’s whipped.
- Electric Hand Mixer – one with a whisk beater is the best for making whipped cream.
How to Make Whipped Coconut Cream
These are the recipe steps and some photos of the process for whipping coconut cream. I hope they help you make this healthy treat recipe!
You can scroll down to the bottom of this article for a printable recipe card.
- Refrigerate the coconut cream for at least 24 hours. It must be thoroughly chilled. Don’t skip this step. Room temperature coconut cream will not whip.
- Put a large mixing bowl and mixer beaters in the freezer for at least 10 minutes before whipping.
- Open the can of coconut cream and carefully scrape out the thickened cream on top. Leave the liquid in the can.
- Place the thickened cream in the chilled mixing bowl.
- Beat with a mixer until whipped. It should take a minute or two at the most.
Use or refrigerate the whipped coconut cream immediately. Refrigerating helps the whipped cream set better.
You can use the liquid from the coconut cream to make smoothies or spoon a little of it onto your dog’s food.
How to Store Whipped Coconut Cream
Store coconut whipped cream in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Egg White Whipped Cream
Whipped egg whites are also a marvelous treat for dogs. It looks like whipped cream and is just as fluffy. It’s basically a meringue without sugar or cream of tartar. And not baked.
If you are concerned about raw eggs, you can use pasteurized eggs.
What to do with the yolks? Just add them to your dog’s food.
Benefits of Egg Whites
Egg whites are high in protein, so they will help your dog build stronger muscles. They are also lower in cholesterol than egg yolks, so they are fantastic for your dog’s heart.
How to Make Egg White Whipped Cream
- Set out eggs to get to room temperature. Cold egg whites will not whip up and get fluffy.
- Separate the eggs. Be careful not to get any yolk in the white. Even the tinest amount will keep them from whipping.
- Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
Can you eat whipped cream for dogs?
Yes! Whether you make whipped cream with coconut cream or egg whites, both are safe for human consumption. But since it isn’t sweetened, it’s unlikely you would enjoy it as much as whipped cream made for people.
Why Starbucks Puppuccino is Not Good for Dogs
The Starbucks dog drink is basically a cup of dairy-filled whipped cream that is sweetened with sugar. Both dairy and sugar are unhealthy for your pet to eat.
Even though Starbucks gives it a cute little name, they don’t make a specific whipped cream just for dogs. They just use their normal whipped cream and put it in a small cup.
This whipped cream is packed with sugar. According to the National Canine Research Association, a puppucino has around 120-180 calories in one cup. That’s a lot considering that a 90-pound dog only needs about 1100 calories a day.
Instead of getting a Starbucks pup cup, get a puppuccino dog toy on Amazon for your dog to play with. Or a Bark Brew dog toy at Target or Walmart.

I am really looking forward to trying this for my Bichon. I also prepare healthy eating recipes using veggies, protein for what gives great fresh foods. Dogs love a sweet treat along with us, and cinnamon is so good for them, I might add a touch of ginger for a little snap. 😋
