Why You Will Love This Recipe

There’s something so rewarding about baking homemade treats for your dog, and these festive cookies are as fun to make as they are to share. There are so many reasons this recipe will be a favorite:

Wholesome Ingredients – Made with simple, pantry-friendly ingredients that are safe and nutritious for dogs.

Naturally Sweetened with Honey – Traditional snickerdoodle cookies aren’t good for dogs because of the sugar. These are naturally sweetened with honey, so your pup can enjoy that warm, cinnamon flavor worry-free.

Easy to Make – Just mix, shape, and bake! No rolling dough or cutting out shapes, and no molds required.

Perfect for Holiday Baking – These snickerdoodles make adorable gifts for dog-loving friends and are perfect for Christmas cookie exchanges with fellow pet parents.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

These snickerdoodle dog treats are made with just a handful of ingredients that come together into a dough that’s easy to work with and bakes into soft, lightly spiced cookies:

  • Ground Cinnamon – Gives these cookies their signature flavor.
  • Honey – Naturally sweetens without refined sugar.
  • Coconut Milk – Adds moisture and healthy fats.
  • Egg – Adds protein and helps hold everything together.
  • Brown Rice Flour – A gluten-free flour that’s gentle on your dog’s digestive system.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are some things to keep in mind and simple swaps you can make:

Cinnamon is safe in small amounts. According to the Pet Poison Helpline, it takes over a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to cause problems for most pets. These treats contain just 1 teaspoon for the whole batch (about 0.04 tsp per cookie).

Brown Rice Flour. Make your own by placing uncooked brown rice in a food processor or blender and blending until fine.

Other Flours. You can substitute rice flour with oat flour, all-purpose flour, or a 50-50 combination of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Because whole wheat flour is denser, it’s not a good substitute to use by itself. Do not use coconut flour because it absorbs too much liquid and the treats won’t come out right.

How to Make Snickerdoodle Dog Treats

These dog-friendly snickerdoodles are simple to make and fun to shape. Here’s what to do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the coconut milk, honey, and egg until well combined.
  3. Add the brown rice flour and cinnamon to the wet mixture and stir (or mix with a hand mixer) to form a dough.
  4. Roll 2-tablespoon portions of dough into 1½” balls. Place on the baking sheet and gently flatten each one with a fork to create a crisscross pattern.
  5. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the treats are set and lightly golden.
  6. Let the treats cool completely on the baking sheet before serving or storing.

Tip: Want to make different sizes? Just roll the dough into smaller or larger balls and adjust the baking time; shorter for smaller, longer for larger.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature. They will last up to 1 week.

For longer storage, you can freeze the treats in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Yep, they sure can! All of the ingredients are safe for human consumption. These snickerdoodle cookies are lightly sweet and perfect for anyone watching their sugar intake. Give one a try and you might be surprised at how tasty they are.
