Ingredient Notes
Before we get to the recipe, here are some important things to remember about the ingredients you give your dog.
First, never use peanut butter that contains xylitol, an artificial sweetener toxic to dogs.
Use a ripe banana without any green on the skin.
You can make oat flour by placing uncooked old-fashioned oats in a food processor or blender and blending until it has the consistency of flour. One cup of oats makes about 3/4 cup of flour.
You can substitute oat flour with all-purpose flour or a 50-50 combination of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Because whole wheat flour is denser, it’s not a good substitute to use by itself.

Making biscotti for dogs is easy to do! Here are the steps and some photos to help you in the process.
- Combine oat flour and baking powder in a bowl.
- Mash the banana in a separate bowl.
- Add eggs, peanut butter, and coconut oil to the bowl with the banana. Stir until it’s all combined and smooth.
- Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredient mixture. Stir to form a dough.

- Add the blueberries and gently stir them into the dough.
- Divide the dough in half and shape loaves on a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
- Bake at 300°F for 20 minutes. Let the loaves cool.
- Place a loaf on a cutting board and cut it diagonally into 1 inch slices.
- Put the slices back on the lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 300°F for 20 minutes, until golden brown. Turn the oven off and leave the biscotti in the oven until it is cooled completely.

- Microwave the carob chips and coconut oil in 20-second increments until melted and smooth. Stir after each increment and be careful not to microwave it for too long and to burn it.
- Dip the biscotti in the carob glaze. Alternatively, use a spoon to either spread the glaze on one side or drizzle it in a back and forth pattern.
- Place the glazed biscotti on a wire rack or parchment paper and allow the glaze to cool and harden.

Recipe Variations
The great thing about biscotti is that it’s easy to make with different flavors. Here are some ideas:
Use almond butter or SunButter (sunflower seed butter) instead of peanut butter. Just make sure it does not contain xylitol.
Use 1/2 cup of applesauce or pumpkin puree instead of a banana.
Use freeze-dried cranberries instead of blueberries.

Serving Size
How much biscotti should you give your dog? That depends on the amount of food you gave your pet to eat that day and the size of your dog. Large dogs can consume more than smaller dogs.
One biscotti is quite large for a dog treat. Break it into smaller pieces if you have a small dog.
Make sure you don’t exceed the recommended daily caloric intake amount for your dog. That amount changes for each dog breed, size, and activity level. The nutrition information in the recipe card below is for 1 dipped biscotti in a batch of 14.
Also, start with small amounts when adding new foods to your dog’s diet to ensure your dog has no allergic or adverse reactions.
How to Store Biscotti and How Long It Lasts
Store biscotti in an airtight container at room temperature. If it is glazed, place parchment paper between the layers. It will last up to 1 week.
For longer storage, you can freeze biscotti in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag for up to 3 months.
Can people eat this biscotti?
Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. And it’s perfect for folks watching their sugar intake. Give one a try, you may enjoy it with your coffee or tea.
