Why You and Your Dog Will Love This Recipe

There’s nothing better than seeing your pup’s tail wag like crazy when you offer them a homemade treat. Here’s why this recipe for peach dog treats will become a go-to favorite:

Wholesome Ingredients – They’re made with real fruit and oats. There are no preservatives, artificial stuff, or mystery ingredients. Just good, dog-safe food.

Easy to Make – If you’ve ever made cookies, you can make these. It’s a mix, roll, cut, and bake kind of recipe. Nothing fancy, just straightforward baking fun.

Perfect for Peach Season – Got fresh peaches? These treats are a great way to use them up. They’re a fun, fruity way to bring summer flavor into your dog’s snack time.

Cute and Customizable – Cut them into fun shapes and make snack time feel extra special. You can even swap out ingredients to match your dog’s preferences or dietary needs.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

These treats keep things simple and natural. Each ingredient has a purpose and brings something great to the mix:

  • Peaches – The star of the treats! They add flavor and nutrition. See more benefits below.
  • Old-fashioned rolled oats – A gentle, whole grain that adds texture and fiber.
  • Oat flour – Gluten-free flour that dogs can easily digest.
  • Blackstrap molasses – A touch of earthy sweetness with added iron, calcium, and other nutrients.
  • Water – Helps bind everything together into a dough that’s easy to roll.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are a few important things to keep in mind, and some easy swaps if you need them:

  • You can use frozen peaches instead of fresh, just thaw them first and chop. You’ll need about 1 cup of chopped peaches.
  • Swap out peach with apple, mango, nectarine, or pear if your pup prefers something else (or if that’s what you have on hand).
  • Use honey instead of molasses if needed.
  • Make your own oat flour by blending rolled oats in a blender or food processor until fine. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.
  • You can also use brown rice flour (just blend uncooked rice until it’s flour-like).
  • If you don’t need gluten-free treats, you can use all-purpose flour or a 50/50 mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Don’t use 100% whole wheat because it can make the treats too dense.

Equipment Needed

You likely have the kitchen items you need for making the treats. You can use any cookie cutter, but paw shaped cookie cutters make them extra cute.

How to Make Peach Dog Treats

Making these treats is just like baking cookies, it’s fun and simple! Here’s what to do:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients. Combine the rolled oats and oat flour in a large bowl.
  3. Peel, pit, and chop your peaches into small pieces.
  4. Add the chopped peaches, molasses, and water to the bowl. Stir to form a rollable dough. If it feels too dry or crumbly, add a little more water.
  5. Place the dough on parchment paper and roll it out to about ¼ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out the treats. Re-roll scraps until all the dough is used.
  6. Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20–22 minutes.
  7. Let the treats cool completely on the baking sheet before serving or storing.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Because these treats are made with fresh fruit, they’re best stored in the fridge:

  • Keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Just thaw before serving or give them as a frozen treat.

Can people eat these treats?

Absolutely! These treats are made with simple, human-safe ingredients. They taste like a lightly sweet peach oatmeal cookie, especially nice if you’re watching your sugar intake. Go ahead and try one, you might be surprised at how tasty they are!
