Why You Will Love This Recipe

There’s something truly satisfying about whipping up homemade treats for your dog. Not only do you get to control what goes into them, but you also get to watch your furry friend go wild for something you made with love. Here are just a few reasons this air fryer peanut butter pumpkin dog treat recipe will be a favorite:

Wholesome Ingredients – These treats are made with pumpkin, peanut butter, and oat flour. No fillers or mystery ingredients like the ones in many store-bought ones.

Easy to Make – Just mix, roll, cut, and air fry! It’s just like making cookies, but quicker and easier.

Simple to Customize – Swap out the ingredients to suit your dog’s taste or dietary needs. There are plenty of pup-approved options.

Economical – Making your own treats at home can save a lot compared to buying them.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

You only need a few pantry staples to make these air-fried dog treats, and each one has a part in what makes them so good.

  • Peanut Butter – Adds protein, healthy fats, and flavor that dogs adore.
  • Pumpkin Purée – Provides moisture, flavor, and nutrients like fiber and beta-carotene.
  • Eggs – Help bind the dough and add protein.
  • Oat Flour – A gentle, easy-to-digest flour that gives the treats structure.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are some things to keep in mind and simple swaps you can make:

Peanut Butter – Always use unsweetened peanut butter without xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. You can substitute it with almond butter or sunflower seed butter (xylitol-free).

Pumpkin Purée – Use plain canned pumpkin and not pumpkin pie mix because the mix may have spices toxic to dogs. You can substitute pumpkin with plain mashed sweet potato or butternut squash.

Oat Flour – Make your own by blending old-fashioned oats in a blender or food processor until fine. One cup of oats yields about ¾ cup of flour.

Other Flours – All-purpose flour or a 50/50 blend with whole wheat flour can be used. Avoid using only whole wheat, as it’s denser. Skip coconut flour because it absorbs too much moisture.

How to Make Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats in an Air Fryer

Making these air-fried dog treats is super easy. Here’s what to do:

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the pumpkin purée, peanut butter, and eggs until well combined.
  2. Add the oat flour and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough on parchment paper or a lightly floured surface to about ¼”–½” thick.
  4. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters, rerolling scraps as needed.
  5. Arrange the cutouts in a single layer in your air fryer basket.
  6. Air fry at 370°F for 6–7 minutes, or until the treats are firm and lightly browned.
  7. Transfer to a wire rack and let them cool completely before serving.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator. They will last up to 1 week.

For longer storage, you can freeze the treats in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Oh yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for humans. They’re not sweet like typical cookies, but if you’re curious, go ahead and take a bite.
