Homemade brewer’s yeast dog treats are a simple snack packed with flavor and nutrients your dog will love. These crunchy treats have a savory taste that many dogs find irresistible.

Brewer’s yeast is a popular ingredient in homemade dog treats because it adds nutrition while giving them a rich, slightly cheesy flavor that dogs enjoy. When combined with oats and applesauce, it creates a dough that bakes into crunchy cookies perfect for rewarding your pup.

If you enjoy making homemade treats for your dog, these brewer’s yeast treats are an easy recipe to add to your list.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Making treats for your dog is always rewarding, and watching them happily crunch on something you baked yourself makes it even better. There are so many reasons this recipe will become a favorite.

Easy to Make – This recipe uses simple steps just like making cookies. Mix the ingredients, roll out the dough, cut the shapes, and bake.

Wholesome Ingredients – These treats are made with simple ingredients you can feel good about giving your dog. There are no artificial preservatives, colors, or unnecessary additives.

Customizable – You can easily adjust this recipe depending on what you have available or your dog’s preferences by swapping ingredients or adding different flavors.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

These treats use simple ingredients that work together to create a flavorful and nutritious snack for your dog. This is what you’ll need:

  • Brewer’s Yeast – A nutrient-dense ingredient rich in B vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It also gives the treats a savory flavor that dogs love.
  • Oat Flour – Provides structure for the dough and is easily digestible for dogs.
  • Old-Fashioned Oats – Adds texture and additional fiber that helps create a hearty treat.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce – Adds moisture and natural sweetness while helping bind the dough together.
  • Water – Helps bring the dough together to make it easy to roll and cut.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

This recipe is flexible and can easily be adjusted depending on what ingredients you have available.

Brewer’s Yeast – For added flavor and nutrients, you can use my Brewer’s Yeast Herb Blend recipe

Applesauce – You can substitute applesauce with mashed banana or plain pumpkin puree.

Oat Flour – You can make oat flour by blending old-fashioned rolled oats in a blender or food processor until it reaches a flour consistency. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.

Flour Substitutes – You can substitute oat flour with brown rice flour, all-purpose flour, or a 50-50 combination of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Because whole wheat flour is denser, it’s not a good substitute to use by itself. Flour substitutes may affect the dough, so start with less and add as needed.

Equipment Needed

You likely have the kitchen items you need for making the treats. You can use any cookie cutter, but bone-shaped cookie cutters make them extra cute.

How to Make Brewer’s Yeast Dog Treats

Making these treats is simple and similar to baking cookies. Here’s what to do:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the oat flour, brewer’s yeast, and old-fashioned oats.
  3. Stir in the applesauce.
  4. Add just enough water to form a rollable dough.
  5. Place the dough on parchment paper and roll it out until about ¼ to ½ inch thick.
  6. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Re-roll and cut the dough until it is all used.
  7. Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes.
  9. Allow the treats to cool completely on the baking sheet before serving.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature. They will last up to 1 week.

For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. Give one a try and see if you like it.
