Ingredients and What They Bring to the Candy

These few ingredients come together to make a smooth, rich, and dog-friendly candy. Each one adds something important to the texture or flavor.

  • Carob powder creates a chocolate-like flavor that is completely safe for dogs.
  • Peanut butter provides creamy richness and flavor that dogs adore.
  • Coconut oil helps the candy firm up and adds healthy fats.
  • Maple syrup gives a hint of sweetness and smooth consistency.

Ingredient Notes And Substitutions

Just an important reminder and some simple ingredient swaps you can make to work for your dog’s needs or to use what you have on hand.

Safety reminder: Do not use peanut butter containing xylitol. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs.

Peanut butter can be replaced with unsweetened almond butter or sunflower seed butter, as long as it is xylitol-free.

Maple syrup can be substituted with honey or blackstrap molasses.

You likely already have everything necessary to mix and melt the candy base. To shape the candy, you will need silicone candy molds in fun shapes.
