Why You’ll Love This Strawberry Dog Treats Recipe

These baked strawberry treats for dogs are more than just adorable, they’re a wholesome way to treat your furry friend.

Made with real fruit. Fresh strawberries and banana add natural sweetness and nutrients without any added sugar or preservatives.

Soft and chewy texture. These treats are great for dogs of all ages, especially seniors or pups who prefer a softer bite.

Easy to make. With just a handful of pantry ingredients and a few steps, this recipe comes together quickly. There are no fancy tools required.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

You only need a few simple ingredients to make these fruity dog treats:

  • Strawberries: Fresh, ripe strawberries bring a burst of fruity flavor and nutrition.
  • Banana: Mashed banana adds sweetness and moisture while holding the dough together.
  • Peanut Butter: Adds protein and healthy fats, plus it’s a flavor dogs love.
  • Oat Flour: A great flour that’s easy for dogs to digest and full of fiber.
  • Old-fashioned Oats: Add texture and heartiness to the treats.
  • Water: Used to adjust the dough consistency so it’s just right for molds or rolling.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

Do not use peanut butter with xylitol because it is toxic to dogs. Check the label to be sure!

You can make oat flour by blending old-fashioned oats in a food processor or blender until finely ground. 1 cup oats yields about ¾ cup oat flour.

You can substitute:

  • Peanut butter with almond butter or sunflower seed butter. Make sure they’re xylitol-free too.
  • Banana with unsweetened applesauce or plain pumpkin puree.
  • Oat Flour with brown rice flour. Make your own by blending uncooked brown rice.
  • All-purpose or whole wheat flour if your dog isn’t sensitive to gluten. You may need to adjust liquid amounts depending on the flour used.

Equipment Needed

You probably have most of the kitchen items you need to make this strawberry dog treats recipe. You can use any regular silicone candy mold, but a dog paw print mold gives these treats a fun look.

How To Make Strawberry Dog Treats

These dog treats with strawberries and banana are quick to make and bake. Here’s how:

  1. Dice the strawberries and set them aside.
  2. Mash the banana in a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir in the peanut butter until smooth.
  4. Add oat flour and oats; mix until combined.

  1. Add water a little at a time until the dough is soft but not sticky.
  2. Fill silicone molds placed on a baking sheet with the dough.
  3. Press strawberry pieces into each treat.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
  5. Cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

The treats will be somewhat soft. If you want crunchier treats, place them on a cookie sheet and bake them at 300°F until they get crunchier.

Recipe Variation – Cut Out Treats

Don’t have silicone molds? No problem! You can roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to make these baked strawberry dog treats:

  1. Add more flour and less water to get a rolling consistency – firm but not sticky.
  2. Stir the chopped strawberries into the dough.
  3. Lightly flour your surface and roll out the dough.
  4. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters for dog treats, or slice into squares with a pizza cutter.
  5. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Let cool completely before giving to your pup.

Serving Size

These treats should be given in moderation and make up no more than 10% of your dog’s daily calorie intake. Consult with your veterinarian if you are unsure of the amount of treats for your dog.

If your dog hasn’t tried any of the ingredients before, start with one treat to make sure there are no sensitivities or allergies.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Because these treats contain fresh fruit, they’re best stored in the refrigerator:

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 4 months.

Due to the moisture in the strawberries, freezing is the best way to prevent mold. Take out a few at a time to thaw or serve cold – your pup might love the icy crunch!

Can people eat these treats?

Yes! These are made with dog-safe ingredients that are also people-safe. They’re not overly sweet, but you’re welcome to try one and see if you enjoy it too.

Ingredients

  • 5-6 Strawberries
  • 1 Banana
  • ⅓ cup Unsweetened Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup Oat Flour
  • ½ cup Old-fashioned Oats
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Cut the strawberries into small pieces and set them aside.
  • Mash the banana in a medium bowl.
  • Add peanut butter and stir to combine.
  • Add flour and oats and mix until combined.
  • Add enough water to make a dough that’s easy to put in a mold. Or just enough to make it rollable if you want to roll out the dough and cut out the treats.
  • If using a silicone mold, place the mold on a baking sheet. Add the dough to the mold, and press some strawberry pieces into each one.
  • If rolling and cutting the dough, add more flour if needed to make it rollable. Add the cut strawberries to the dough and combine well. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to about ¼ to ½ inch thickness, according to your preference. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the treats and place them on a non-stick baking sheet or use parchment paper to cover the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Remove the baked treats from the mold or baking sheet and place them on a wire rack to cool to room temperature.

Notes

Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, an artificial sweetener toxic to dogs.
If you bake the treats in silicone molds they will have a softer texture. To make them crunchier, place them on a baking sheet after you remove them from the mold. Bake them at 300°F until they have reached the desired crunchiness.
You can make oat flour by placing uncooked old-fashioned oats in a blender or food processor and blending until it reaches a flour consistency.

Yes, and it would be best to freeze them if you want them to last more than a few days in the fridge.

Does dehydrating them make them last longer? If so how long do you dehydrate them for?

Yes, dehydrating them will make them last longer because it removes the moisture. How long to dehydrate depends on how much moisture is in them. Check them after 4 hours and continue dehydrating until they’re fully dried.
