Cooking food for your dog is such a rewarding experience. You get to pick the best ingredients and see the joy on your pup’s face as they gobble up a fresh, tail-wagging meal. Here are some of the reasons this will be a go-to recipe:

Wholesome Ingredients – There’s no mystery meat or artificial additives here. Just a few real, recognizable ingredients that you can feel good about feeding your dog.

Easy to Make – The slow cooker does all the work! Just toss in the ingredients and let it simmer to perfection while you go about your day.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Dish

This recipe is made with simple, dog-friendly ingredients that each bring something special to the bowl.

  • Duck breasts – A rich source of protein and nutrients like iron and zinc, duck is a flavorful option that adds variety to your dog’s diet.
  • Wild rice blend – This whole grain is packed with fiber and helps keep your dog feeling full and satisfied.
  • Carrots – Loaded with beta-carotene and fiber, carrots are a naturally sweet veggie that dogs tend to love.
  • Green beans – These are low in calories and high in vitamins, making them a great veggie addition for balance.
  • Unsalted chicken broth – Adds moisture and flavor, helping everything cook together in the slow cooker.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making this recipe, there are a few things to keep in mind and easy swaps you can make:

  • Safety – Do not use chicken broth made with onions or garlic. You can find dog-friendly broth at pet stores or online. Or make your own with this bone broth for dogs recipe.
  • Duck – Swap it with chicken, turkey, lean beef, bison, or venison if your dog prefers or tolerates those proteins better.
  • Carrots – You can use sweet potato, butternut squash, or fresh pumpkin as alternatives.
  • Wild Rice – Feel free to use brown rice, barley, quinoa, or sorghum.
  • Green Beans – Substitute with broccoli, zucchini, kale, or spinach.
  • Herbs – Boost flavor and freshness with a tablespoon of chopped parsley, thyme, or a teaspoon of fresh rosemary.
  • Lower Fat – Trim off the skin and visible fat from the duck breasts before cooking to reduce fat content.
