Why Make Rice Pudding For Dogs
There are so many reasons to make this sweet treat for your pup. Maybe your fur baby is just bored with their dog food – this is a fun new taste and texture that will kick them out of their rut. Maybe your baby has an upset stomach. If so, rice pudding is easy to digest and still gives them the calories they need.
Rice pudding is an excellent treat for your dog’s diet if he has health issues. Even though rice has no nutritional value to dogs, goat milk is a good choice because it’s high in protein.
It’s true that large quantities of rice aren’t good for your dog’s health. But, if your pup has stomach issues, rice can help settle your dog’s stomach naturally.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
You’ll love how easy this treat is to make for your furry best friend. Not only that, but it doesn’t use any of the harmful stuff that might be in store-bought rice pudding. Remember, dogs can’t eat vanilla extract, artificial sweeteners, or too much real sugar (because it could cause dental issues and diabetes).
It’s ok to give your canine companion a fun treat! You’ll love how happy they are as they gobble it up at their puppy party with their canine friends. It’s made with dog-safe ingredients, so you’ll be proud to share it.
Ingredients
The exact ingredient amounts are in the printable recipe card below. First, I want to share a list and some information about the wholesome ingredients in this recipe. This delicious dessert is made with these four basic ingredients:
- Cooked White Rice
- Goat Milk
- Oat Milk
- Eggs
Plus some fresh fruit if you want to garnish the pudding. Just make sure it is fruit dogs can eat.
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
You can use either white or brown rice. Brown rice has more fiber, so many dog owners prefer it as a part of a healthy diet. White rice is safe, it just has fewer health benefits. Either one can work in this recipe.
Milk substitutes – You can substitute either goat milk or oat milk with lite coconut milk or unsweetened almond milk. You can also use low-fat milk if your dog can tolerate cow’s milk and does not have total lactose intolerance. If so, avoid any dairy products.
Egg substitute – If your dog has an egg allergy, you can substitute chicken eggs with flax eggs. To make 2 flax eggs, combine 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal with 6 tablespoons of water. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using it in the recipe.
Add up to 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon for flavor. And, yes, it is safe for dogs in small quantities.
Equipment Needed
I’m pretty sure you have the kitchen items needed to make the pudding, but just in case:
How to Make Rice Pudding for Dogs

Serving Size
The portion size used for calculating the nutrition information in the recipe card below is ¼ cup.
However, a serving can vary depending on your dog’s size and how much other food and treats your dog has consumed. The total daily calories should not exceed the recommended amount for your dog. It is important to maintain your dog’s healthy weight.
This rice pudding is a dog dessert that should be given as an occasional treat and not on a regular basis.
I recommend starting with a small amount of rice pudding and then either using your judgment or consulting with your vet to get the best amount for your dog.
And keep in mind it’s best to start with small amounts when introducing any new foods to your dog. Always watch for any sign of an allergic reaction.
How to Store Rice Pudding and How Long It Lasts
Once the rice pudding has cooled to room temperature, transfer it to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator. It will last up to 4 days.
You can also freeze it in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag. It will last up to 3 months. Thaw it in the fridge overnight.
Can people eat rice pudding for dogs?
Yes, they certainly can! All of the ingredients are safe for human consumption. However, I doubt folks would enjoy it since it isn’t sweet. But, if you’re curious, give it a try and see if you like it.

Could this be made with regular milk. I can’t get goat milk and oat milk is so expensive. Thanks for all the great recipes.

Regular cow’s milk isn’t good for dogs because of the lactose. Plain unsweetened almond milk is a good substitute.
