Why You Will Love This Recipe

There’s something fun about making your dog their very own dessert, and this simple rice pudding couldn’t be much easier. Here are a few reasons you’ll want to make it again and again.

Wholesome Ingredients – Everything in this pudding is dog-friendly. There’s no added sugar, artificial sweeteners, or vanilla extract, just simple ingredients you can feel good about putting in your dog’s treat bowl.

Easy to Make – You don’t need any special cooking skills to whip up this creamy treat.

One Pot – The pudding cooks in a saucepan on the stovetop, so cleanup is quick and easy.

Simple to Customize – Change the type of rice or milk, add a little cinnamon, or top the pudding with your dog’s favorite fruit.

Fun Dog Dessert – Who says people should get all the desserts? This creamy rice pudding is a fun way to serve your pup something a little different for a birthday, gotcha day, holiday, or anytime treat.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Pudding

It only takes four simple ingredients to make this creamy dog-friendly dessert. Here’s what each one brings to the pudding:

  • Cooked White Rice – Creates the base of the pudding and gives it its classic soft, comforting texture.
  • Goat Milk – Adds moisture and creaminess along with a mild flavor.
  • Oat Milk – Adds more liquid and helps give the pudding its creamy consistency.
  • Eggs – Add protein and richness while helping thicken the pudding as it cooks.

Ingredient Notes, Substitutions, and Additions

One of the great things about this simple recipe is how easy it is to change it up. Here are a few substitutions, flavor additions, and toppings to consider:

Rice – You can use either cooked white or brown rice.

Milk – You can substitute either goat milk or oat milk with lite coconut milk or unsweetened almond milk. You can also use low-fat cow’s milk if your dog tolerates dairy and isn’t lactose intolerant. Be sure any plant-based milk you use is plain, unsweetened, and does not contain xylitol or other ingredients that aren’t safe for dogs.

Flavorings – Add up to 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon for extra flavor. Cinnamon is safe for dogs in small quantities.

Toppings – Garnish the pudding with fresh fruit for an extra-special treat. Blueberries, strawberries, and bananas are a few tasty options. Just be sure to choose fruit dogs can eat.

How to Make Rice Pudding for Dogs

This creamy dog dessert comes together with very little prep. Here’s what to do:

  1. Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl and pour in the goat and oat milk.
  2. Whisk to combine the eggs with the milk.
  3. Pour the milk mixture into a medium saucepan and add the rice.
  4. Stir everything together.
  5. Cook for 20 minutes on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
  6. Cool the rice pudding to room temperature before serving it to your dog.

How to Store Rice Pudding and How Long It Will Last

Store the rice pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

For longer storage, divide it into individual portions and place them in freezer-safe containers or plastic freezer bags. Freeze for up to 3 months and thaw overnight in the refrigerator.

You can warm the pudding slightly in the microwave before serving. Do not serve it hot to your dog.

Could this be made with regular milk. I can’t get goat milk and oat milk is so expensive. Thanks for all the great recipes.

Regular cow’s milk isn’t good for dogs because of the lactose. Plain unsweetened almond milk is a good substitute.

So lactose free regular milk should be fine?

Yes, the recipe can be made with brown rice instead of white rice. As for using water instead of milk, the pudding wouldn’t achieve the same creamy texture and flavor because the milk provides richness and binds the ingredients better. If milk isn’t an option, you could try substituting the goat and oat milk with chicken broth without onions or garlic, which would still add flavor and nutrients while being dog-safe.

Ok. I might try making it with coconut milk. Thank you for your quick response!
