Why You Will Love This Recipe

There’s something so fulfilling about baking homemade treats for your dog. You get to pick the ingredients, make something with love, and watch your pup enjoy every last bite. There are so many reasons this recipe will be a favorite:

Wholesome Ingredients – These treats are made with real, nourishing ingredients. There are no preservatives, no fillers, no mystery stuff.

Easy to Make – All you have to do is mix, press into molds, and bake. That’s it!

Simple to Customize – You can easily swap ingredients to suit your dog’s needs or what you’ve got on hand.

High Fiber Treats – With flaxseed, spinach, and oat flour, these treats are a great source of fiber to support digestion and help keep things moving.

Economical – These homemade treats are more budget-friendly than most store-bought options, and you get way more out of a batch.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

This recipe is loaded with simple, nutritious ingredients that make for a savory and satisfying snack:

  • Goat Cheese – Rich in protein and calcium, with a bold flavor that dogs love.
  • Chopped Spinach – Adds vitamins and a bit of color.
  • Flax Seeds – Add fiber, texture, and omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Oat Flour – A gentle flour that helps bind the dough and adds fiber.
  • Egg – Helps bind the ingredients and adds a bit of protein.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are some things to keep in mind and simple swaps you can make:

  • Goat Cheese – You can use low-fat cottage cheese or shredded mozzarella instead.
  • Spinach – Chopped broccoli or zucchini are great alternatives.
  • Flax Seeds – You can substitute ½ cup of whole flax seeds with 1 cup of flaxseed meal. (Ground flax takes up more space!)
  • Oat Flour – Make your own by blending old-fashioned oats in a food processor until it reaches a flour-like texture. 1 cup of oats makes about 3/4 cup of flour.
  • Flour Alternatives – You can use rice flour, all-purpose flour, or a 50/50 mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Skip using just whole wheat flour because it’s too dense. And don’t use coconut flour, it absorbs too much moisture and will throw off the texture.

Equipment Needed

You probably have everything you need to whip up a batch of these cheesy treats. You can use any silicone mold, but bone-shaped molds make them super cute.

How to Make Goat Cheese Dog Treats

These soft and savory dog treats are simple to prepare and bake up beautifully in molds:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Grind the flax seeds until fine using a blender, spice grinder, or food processor.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground flaxseed and oat flour.
  4. Add the goat cheese, chopped spinach, and egg. Mix until everything is well combined into a sticky dough.
  5. Place silicone molds on a baking sheet for stability.
  6. Fill each mold with dough, pressing it in to fully fill the shapes.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the treats are firm.
  8. Let them cool completely before removing from the molds.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 3 months. Just thaw before serving.

Can people eat these treats?

Oh yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. If you enjoy savory, cheesy biscuits, give one a try, and you might like it!
