For the cupcakes:
- Oat Flour – A healthy flour that’s great for making desserts and treats for dogs.
- Baking Soda – This gives the pupcakes a light texture. Without it, they will be very dense.
- Baking Powder – Also helps the cupcakes to rise.
- Shredded Carrots – The star of the pupcakes!
- Creamy Peanut Butter – Use natural peanut butter made with just peanuts and no added sugar or sweetener.
- Unsweetened Applesauce – Naturally sweetens the cupcakes.
- Plain Greek Yogurt – Adds moisture to the batter and is another protein source.
- Egg – creates structure and stability within the batter. It also adds protein.
For the frosting:
- Plain Greek Yogurt – Makes the frosting creamy and gives it beneficial probiotics.
- Creamy Peanut Butter – To complement the peanut butter in the cupcakes.
- Dog Biscuits – Optional for decorating.
You’ll need to use organic ingredients if you want to make organic pupcakes.
Ingredient Notes
When you make this easy dog cupcakes recipe, here are a few notes to remember:
Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol. It is a sweetener that is toxic to dogs. It is best to use natural unsweetened peanut butter.
You can make oat flour by placing uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats in a blender or food processor and blending until it reaches flour consistency.
You can substitute the oat flour with white or brown rice flour. You can also make rice flour using uncooked rice.
If your dog doesn’t have a wheat allergy you can use regular white flour, like all-purpose flour.
If you want to use whole wheat flour, you can substitute half of the oat flour with it. You may need to add more applesauce if the batter is too dry.
