Why You Will Love This Recipe

There are so many reasons these air-fried egg bites will become a favorite in your kitchen.

Easy to Make – A few simple ingredients and the air fryer are all you need to make these soft, tasty treats.

Simple Ingredients – Everything in this recipe is easy to find at the grocery store, and you probably already have most of it in your kitchen.

Customizable – You can easily swap a few ingredients to suit your dog’s taste preferences or dietary needs.

Economical – Making homemade dog treats costs much less than buying specialty treats from the pet store, and you know exactly what’s in every bite.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Bites

These simple ingredients work together to create soft, flavorful treats your dog will look forward to.

  • Sweet potato – Adds natural sweetness, moisture, fiber, and vitamins.
  • Shredded cheese – Brings savory flavor that dogs love.
  • Egg – Binds the ingredients while adding protein.
  • Oat flour – Gives the bites structure and is easily digestible by dogs.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

There are several easy ways to customize these homemade treats.

Cheese – Use Cheddar, Colby, Monterey Jack, or Mozzarella cheese. If your dog needs a lower-fat diet, choose a reduced-fat cheese.

Sweet Potato – Substitute butternut squash for the sweet potato.

Oat Flour – You can make oat flour by blending old-fashioned rolled oats in a blender or food processor until it has a flour consistency. One cup of oats makes about ¾ cup of flour.

Flour Substitutions – You can substitute oat flour with brown rice flour, all-purpose flour, or a 50-50 combination of all-purpose and whole wheat flour. Because whole wheat flour is denser, it’s not a good substitute to use by itself. Flour substitutes may affect the dough, so start with less and add as needed.

How to Make Sweet Potato Egg Bites in an Air Fryer

These homemade dog treats come together with just a little prep before the air fryer does the rest. Here’s what to do:

  1. Peel and cut the sweet potato into small cubes.
  2. Place the cubes in a saucepan and add enough water to cover them by about 1 inch.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 20 minutes. Drain well.
  4. Transfer the cooked sweet potato to a bowl and mash until smooth.
  5. Stir in the shredded cheese and egg until well combined.
  6. Add the oat flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  7. Line the bottom of the air fryer basket with parchment paper.
  8. Use a cookie scoop to portion the dough onto the parchment paper, leaving space between each bite.
  9. Air fry at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bites are set and lightly browned.
  10. Remove the bites from the air fryer and repeat with the remaining dough.
  11. Allow the bites to cool completely before serving.

Tip: If you have an oven-style air fryer, you can cook the entire batch at once.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last up to 5 days.

For longer storage, freeze them for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.

Can people eat these treats?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. Give one a try and see if you like it.
