Ingredients and What They Bring to the Bites

Each ingredient in this recipe was picked with purpose. They’re nutritious, safe, and pup-approved!

  • Ground Chicken – A lean source of protein that’s easy to digest.
  • Spinach – Adds fiber, iron, and antioxidants.
  • Carrots – Provide natural sweetness and are rich in beta-carotene.
  • Eggs – Excellent source of protein, healthy fats, and essential vitamins.
  • Low-Fat Cottage Cheese – Adds creaminess and calcium while being high in protein.

Ingredient Substitutions

When making these treats, here are some simple swaps you can make:

  • Chicken – Use ground turkey, lamb, bison, venison, or lean ground beef.
  • Spinach – Swap with chopped kale, broccoli, green beans, peas, or zucchini.
  • Carrots – You can use diced and boiled sweet potato, butternut squash, or pumpkin instead. Just make sure they’re soft and fork-tender.

Equipment Needed

You probably have all the kitchen items to make the treats. You can bake them in a mini muffin pan, but paw or bone-shaped silicone molds make them extra cute.

How to Make Egg Bites for Dogs

Making these egg bites is a breeze! Here’s how:

  1. Thaw the frozen spinach and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
  2. Brown the ground chicken in a skillet (with a little coconut or olive oil if needed). Let it cool slightly.
  3. Stir in the spinach and shredded carrots with the cooked chicken.
  4. Add the eggs and cottage cheese to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  5. Place silicone molds on a baking sheet for easy handling. Fill the molds halfway with the chicken mixture, then top with the egg mixture.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 15-18 minutes or until the egg is fully cooked. Let cool completely before serving.

How to Store Egg Bites and How Long They Last

Store the egg bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

For longer storage, freeze the bites in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag. They’ll last up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.

Can people eat these egg bites?

Oh yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. Give one a try and you may like it. You might want to add a pinch of salt or seasoning if you’re making a batch just for yourself.

Wow, once again the “chemist” has the ingredients measured perfectly. I did substitute zucchini for the spinach because i had that on hand. I think the spinach would be a prettier outcome though. Gee my dog does not seem to care about the appearance though. She certainly liked the taste though. So my dog and I are both happy. I might be happier if she would wash the dishes though~~~~~

Your comment made me smile – thank you! I’m glad the zucchini swap worked well, and you’re so right, dogs couldn’t care less about how food looks. I’m thrilled your pup loved the egg bites, and I’m right there with you wishing they’d help with the dishes too.
