Why You Will Love This Recipe

There’s something fun about whipping up a special smoothie just for your pup and watching them happily lap up every drop. And there are plenty of reasons this is a recipe you’ll want to make again and again.

Quick and Easy to Make – Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a creamy dog smoothie ready to serve.

Wholesome Ingredients – This dog-friendly smoothie is made with simple, nutritious ingredients. There’s no added sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Creamy Treat – Greek yogurt, banana, and peanut butter give this smoothie a thick, creamy consistency and flavors dogs love. It’s a fun treat to serve in a bowl or use in all sorts of other ways.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Smoothie

Just a handful of simple, easy-to-find ingredients are all you need. Here’s what each one contributes:

  • Creamy Peanut Butter – Adds rich, nutty flavor, protein, and creaminess.
  • Banana – Adds natural sweetness and fruity flavor while helping thicken the smoothie.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt – Gives the smoothie a creamy consistency while adding protein and calcium.
  • Lite Coconut Milk – Provides the liquid needed for blending and adds creaminess with a mild coconut flavor.
  • Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats – Add fiber and help thicken the smoothie.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

Choosing the right ingredients is important, and there are several easy substitutions you can make. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Peanut Butter – Always check the label to make sure it does not contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs. Choose plain, unsweetened creamy peanut butter when possible.
  • Peanut Butter Substitutes – You can substitute peanut butter with almond butter or sunflower seed butter. Make sure whichever one you use is xylitol-free.
  • Coconut Milk – You can substitute coconut milk with unsweetened non-dairy milk such as almond milk or oat milk. Goat milk is another good option.
  • Greek Yogurt – You can substitute Greek yogurt with regular plain yogurt. Greek yogurt generally contains less lactose and may be easier for some dogs to tolerate. Low-fat cottage cheese is another option. Always use plain, unsweetened yogurt and never use yogurt containing xylitol.

How to Make a Peanut Butter Smoothie for Dogs

Making this smoothie is a simple process with just a few steps. Here’s what to do:

  1. Peel the banana and cut it into slices.
  2. For a thicker smoothie, place the banana slices on a baking sheet and freeze them until solid before blending.
  3. Place the banana, Greek yogurt, coconut milk, peanut butter, and oats in a blender.

Recipe Variations

It’s easy to change up the basic recipe when you want to give your pup a different flavor or add something extra.

  • Extra Fiber – Add 1 teaspoon of ground flaxseed.
  • Green Smoothie – Add 1 teaspoon of spirulina powder or ½ cup of fresh spinach.
  • Pumpkin Peanut Butter Smoothie – Add ½ cup of plain pumpkin puree.

Other Great Uses for the Smoothie

A bowl isn’t the only way your pup can enjoy this creamy treat. There are several fun ways to serve it for a little variety and enrichment.

  • Enrichment Toy – Pour it into a Kong or similar fillable dog toy and freeze it for a longer-lasting treat.
  • Food Topper – Spoon a small amount over your dog’s regular food to make mealtime extra special.
  • Frozen Treats – Pour the smoothie into silicone molds and freeze until solid.
  • Lick Mat – Spread a thin layer over a lick mat and serve immediately or freeze it for a longer-lasting activity.

How to Store the Smoothie and How Long It Lasts

Store leftover smoothie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. It may separate as it sits, so shake or blend it again before serving if needed.

For longer storage, pour the smoothie into an ice cube tray and freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen cubes to a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can people drink this smoothie?

Yes, they most certainly can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. Make a double batch so you can enjoy a tasty peanut butter smoothie with your dog.
