How to Make Banana Chips for Dogs

Making banana chips is really simple. Just slice the bananas, season them if you like, and slowly dry them until they reach the texture you want.

Oven Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 170°F, or as low as it will go. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Slice the bananas into ¼-inch pieces.
  3. Place the slices in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  4. Sprinkle lightly with ground ginger.
  5. Bake for 2 to 3 hours, turning the slices over halfway through.
  6. Remove them once they reach your desired crispness.

Air Fryer Method

  1. Slice bananas into ¼-inch pieces and sprinkle lightly with ground ginger.
  2. Place the slices on a lined air fryer tray or in the basket with space between them. Work in batches if needed.
  3. Air fry at 150°F or use the dehydrate setting.
  4. Cook for 5 to 8 hours, turning the slices halfway through, until they reach the texture you prefer.

Dehydrator Method

  1. Slice bananas into ¼-inch pieces and sprinkle lightly with ground ginger.
  2. Place the slices in a single layer on dehydrator trays.
  3. Dehydrate at 135°F for 6 to 12 hours until the chips reach your desired crispness.

Banana chips can be either chewy or crispy, depending on how long they dry. A shorter time leaves some moisture and creates chewier chips. Longer drying times remove more moisture and make them crispier.

How to Store Dehydrated Banana Chips and How Long They Last

Once the chips have cooled completely, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. They typically last 1 to 3 weeks, depending on how dry they are. Crispy chips usually last longer than chewy ones because they contain less moisture. Moisture can lead to mold or spoilage.

If possible, place a silica gel packet in the container. It helps absorb moisture and can extend the shelf life of the chips.

For longer storage, freeze the chips in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these banana chips?

Yes, they sure can! All the ingredients are safe for human consumption. Give one a try and see if you like it. You may find yourself snacking on them too.
