Why You’ll Love This Recipe

When you make dog treats from scratch, you get total control over what goes in and what stays out. These peanut butter almond flour treats are a favorite for many reasons:

Wholesome Ingredients – No weird additives or preservatives, just a few simple pantry staples you’ll recognize and feel good about using.

Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, Wheat-Free, and Dairy-Free – A great choice for dogs with sensitivities or allergies. This recipe skips all the common triggers.

Easy to Make – You don’t need any fancy tools or baking skills. Mix, pour into molds, and bake. That’s it!

Simple to Customize – It’s easy to swap ingredients based on what you have or your dog’s preferences.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

This recipe is made with just four ingredients, and each one plays an important role:

  • Almond Flour – A gluten-free and grain-free flour that adds protein, fiber, healthy fats, and vitamins.
  • Peanut Butter – Full of nutrients and a flavor dogs love.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce – Adds moisture and natural sweetness without added sugar.
  • Egg – Helps bind the ingredients together and adds protein.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are a few important things to keep in mind and a few easy swaps you can make:

  • Never use peanut butter with xylitol. This artificial sweetener is toxic to dogs.
  • You can substitute peanut butter with almond butter or sunflower seed butter, as long as it’s xylitol-free.
  • No applesauce? Mashed banana, pumpkin puree, sweet potato, or plain Greek yogurt will work just as well.
  • Want to boost the fiber? Add a tablespoon of ground chia seeds.
  • Need an egg-free option? Use a flax egg instead. Mix 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed with 3 tablespoons of water, then let it sit for 10 minutes.

Equipment Needed

You probably have most of what you need already. Silicone molds make these treats extra cute. If you want to use a mold with all the dog shapes like the one I used, you can get this dog shaped silicone mold on Amazon.

How to Make Almond Flour Dog Treats

These treats come together in no time! Here’s how to do it:

  1. In a medium bowl, stir together the peanut butter, applesauce, and egg until smooth.
  2. Add almond flour and mix until combined.
  3. Place your silicone molds on a baking sheet and pour in the mixture.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 12-15 minutes.
  5. Let the treats cool completely before removing them from the molds.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Store the baked treats in an airtight container. They’ll keep for up to 5 days at room temperature or 1 week in the fridge.

To store them longer, pop them in a freezer-safe container or plastic bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Just thaw a few at a time when you need them.

Can people eat these treats?

Yep, they sure can! All of the ingredients are safe for humans. So if you’re curious, go ahead and try one. They’re like peanut butter almond cookies with no sugar. They’re great for folks who are gluten intolerant or avoiding dairy.
