Meet Wolfgang and Herman. They are two very happy and fun-loving whippets. Wolfgang is the brindle one and it made me smile to feature him because of two reasons. One is I have an uncle in Germany named Wolfgang and the other is he reminds me of my sweet Tiger.
Check out these fun facts about Wolfgang and Herman as told by their human mom, Rachael:
Why did you get your dogs?
I’ve always been a dog person, having always grown up with a furry member of the family – my partner, however, wasn’t so keen, until he finally gave in after roughly 2 years of daily whining to get one! Once we finally got Wolfgang we both obviously fell in love (because let’s face it, who wouldn’t?!)
We loved having him so much that we actually got a second one a year later, Herman, who has now completed our little pack of four.

How did you decide on your dog’s names?
Growing up I was always the one that got to name our animals, we have had our fair share of usual pet names – but I feel like there is nothing better than a human name for a pet. Over the years we’ve had Gavin & Colin the cats, Betty the rabbit and Brian the dog so it seemed natural to give our hounds human names.
We spent some time living in Germany and I decided on the name for our dog long before we actually got one – so when we picked up our first pup I had no doubt his name was going to be Wolfgang!
Naming Herman was a little more difficult, it obviously had to be another German name to match but we couldn’t settle on one that sounded good with Wolfgang until we decided on Herman – which technically is a surname but I don’t think he minds!
What is your dog’s favorite toy?
They have a small toy basket in our living room where they have a selection of toys – Wolfgang’s favorite is his toy pig, which once did make a noise but now it’s sort of dead. Herman loves antlers and buffalo horns to chew on as he’s still teething!
What is your dog’s favorite treat?
Sardines!
How do you spoil your dogs?
I feel like every day is a holiday for our two – they get daily fun games to play to keep them occupied while we’re out, frozen kongs with peanut butter, mashed banana, and blueberries.
Long walks in the countryside followed by a long snooze on either their sheepskin rug or stretched out on our sofa with a furry blanket.
What’s a funny story about your dog or how does your dog make you laugh?
There are so many funny stories about our two – but the most embarrassing/funny story actually happened quite recently.
We had been invited around to a friend’s new apartment, and we were requested to bring the hounds – little did we know that they were also having a little get together with some friends who were visiting from France. As we enter their apartment Wolfgang goes running into the living and steals a whole plate full of Foie Gras that everyone had just settled down to eat!
I’ve never been so apologetic in my whole life!
How do you have fun and play with your dogs?
Wolfgang & Herman have different play styles.
Wolfgang loves rough play and chasing his favorite ball (I think this is because he spent lots of time with my dad’s springer cross!)
Herman is a little more gentle and actually prefers snuggling to playing most of the time – but we have a fun game that we call ‘catch the Herman’ where we chase after him in an attempt to catch him and he zooms around the field darting between us both!
Is there anything special or unique about your dogs? If so, what is it?
I think there is always something unique about sighthounds!
What I find amazing is how different they are in personality but still manage to bit so similar in other ways.
Wolfgang is very sensitive and complex, whereas I feel Herman is more simple with regards to his emotions & yet they are both so similar in their love of people, friendly and gentle with everyone, they both love children and are incredibly affectionate.

I just love whippets! I had a golden/whippet. She was the sweetest, most loving animal I have ever known. No human has ever loved me the way she did. I’m certain she’s with Jesus, taking a walk and cuddling. We’re moving to NC. Once we geg there, I’m going to get a whippet. I’d like a female. I’ll call her Gracy.
