Why You’ll Love This Recipe

There’s something truly satisfying about making wholesome treats for your dog. You know exactly what’s in them, and you get that tail-wagging gratitude in return. Here’s why this recipe might just become a favorite in your treat rotation:

Wholesome ingredients – No mystery ingredients, preservatives, or additives. Just real food you recognize and trust.

They’re super simple to make – Just blend everything up, spoon the mix into fun silicone molds, and pop them in the freezer. That’s it!

Customizable – Whether your dog has dietary needs or picky preferences, you can easily swap ingredients to suit them.

Perfect for the holidays – Cranberries, pumpkin, and warm spices give these treats a festive flair perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Great for summer – When the temps rise, frozen treats are a cool and tasty way to keep your pup refreshed.

Ingredients and What They Bring to the Treats

These five simple ingredients come together to make something tasty and nutritious for your pup:

  • Fresh cranberries – Tart and full of antioxidants, they bring vibrant color and nutrition.
  • Pumpkin puree – Smooth, creamy, and great for digestion.
  • Plain Greek yogurt – Adds protein and probiotics for gut health.
  • Cinnamon – A touch of warmth and flavor.
  • Ginger – Supports digestion and adds a little spicy depth.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

When making these treats, there are a few things to keep in mind and easy swaps to help tailor them to your pup:

  • Safety – Do not use pumpkin pie mix as it may contain sugar and spices unsafe for dogs. Check yogurt labels to be sure there’s no xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • Cranberries – If fresh cranberries aren’t available, frozen work just as well. Just thaw them first.
  • Pumpkin – Try mashed banana, unsweetened applesauce, or cooked sweet potato instead.
  • Dairy-Free – Use plant-based yogurt or lite coconut milk.
  • Extra fiber – Add 1-2 teaspoons of ground chia seeds or flaxseed to boost fiber and omega-3s.

Equipment Needed

You probably have all the kitchen items to make the treats. You can use any silicone molds, but paw and bone-shaped molds make them extra cute. Oh, and there’s also the option of using Christmas silicone molds to make small ones in festive shapes.

How to Make Frozen Cranberry Treats for Dogs

These chilly treats come together in just a few steps:

  1. Blend it all up: Add the cranberries, pumpkin puree, yogurt, cinnamon, and ginger to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and well mixed.
  2. Fill the molds: Place silicone molds on a baking sheet for easy transfer, then spoon the mixture into the molds until full.
  3. Freeze: Put the filled molds in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or until the treats are frozen solid.
  4. Store and serve: Pop the treats out of the molds and place them in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag.

How to Store the Treats and How Long They Last

Once the treats are frozen solid, remove them from the molds and transfer them to a freezer-safe container or plastic zip bag. Store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can people eat these treats?

Oh yes, they sure can! Every ingredient in them is safe for humans. If you’re someone who enjoys tart, fruity flavors and isn’t big on added sugar, you might like them too. Give one a try, you never know!
