Meet Ollie!
He’s a sweet Sheepadoodle dog living a great life by the Atlanta Beltline. Ollie greets and entertains guests at his human parent’s bed and breakfast, Urban Oasis. He got his parents to break a long-time rule too. Can you guess what? Hint: It’s one that’s almost impossible to have with a whippet.
Check out these fun facts about Ollie as told by his human mom, Judi.
Why did you get your dog?
I’ve had two Old English Sheepdogs in the past, both living long lives. Twenty years ago, we got a Bassett Hound puppy to keep our elderly sheepdog, Teddy, company.
The thing about Bassett Hounds is that once you have one, people bring you others that they find runaways or rescues. Our sweet Teddy passed away and we ended up raising three Bassett’s.
I always said when the Bassett’s passed on we’d get another Sheepdog. We were down to two older fellas when last Valentine’s Day, our Craig passed away leaving Otis bereft.
One day shortly after, my son Michael was looking at his Instagram feed and showed me a pic of a farm who had two litters of puppies the same weekend, 12 Golden Doodles and 12 Sheepadoodles. Most were spoken for but they had four Sheepadoodles who still needed a home. I saw the run lt of the litter and fell in love.
He was a little white puffball with a black mask and black ears and black docked tail. I called them and claimed my baby. We brought Ollie home a few weeks later. Everyone fell in love with the smart little fella and Otis perked right up.

How did you decide on your dog’s name?
He just seemed like an Ollie.
What is your dog’s favorite toy?
He has a basket of toys. He likes to get several out each day and brings them to a spot in front of the windows to chew on them while looking outside.
What is your dog’s favorite treat?
Liver Treats from Trader Joe’s
How do you spoil your dog?
My husband and I have always had a no dogs on the bed policy. One weekend when I came back from a trip I noticed that Duane’s had let Ollie sleep on the bed while I was gone. Since it was his rule more than mine, I was happy with it and we upgraded to a King bed to make room for our new baby who is now pretty big!
What’s a funny story about your dog or how does your dog make you laugh?
Ollie loves to sleep on the couch and snuggle with the couch cushions. He also loves our 18-month-old Granddaughter and they play together. She is fearless around him and he is gentle with her.
How do you have fun and play with your dog?
Ollie loves to run with other dogs so we joined a members-only dog park in the neighborhood that he loves! All of my kids and stepkids take my granddogs to the same park. We can get coffee or drinks there and visit while the dogs run like crazy.
Is there anything special or unique about your dog? If so, what is it?
Ollie is his own dog. I was worried at first that he wasn’t bonding with us like most dogs that I’ve had. If we went upstairs to go to bed and called him to come up, he would sit there on the ground floor looking at us and lay down. After a while, when he was ready, then he would come up. He is still very deliberate like he has to think about it first. But he is very bonded to us. It is just his way.
What else would you like to share about your dog?
We have a bed and breakfast and he and Otis both are very social. Our guests love them and the dogs can’t get enough. Once I had to let a guest know that I was going to be out of town and my daughter would be house sitting. She said, “Oh no.” I thought she wanted me there. But then she was really worried that Ollie wouldn’t be there since he was why she made the reservation with us. She was an older lady and she told me that she got on Instagram recently just so she could follow Ollie_Sheepadoodle.
