Doris, A Therapy Dog

Dog Lover · June 16, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Meet Doris. She’s a beautiful lurcher dog that’s a mix of Greyhound and Deerhound. For those in the US who may not be familiar with lurcher, it is an offspring of a sighthound and another breed. Doris happens to be a combination of two sighthound breeds. She’s beautiful and brings a smile to people who really need it.

Doris is so cute with her giant caterpillar toy.

Check out these fun facts about her as told by her human mom, Elaine.

Your Dog’s Name

Doris aka Doz, Dozza, Dozpot

Why did you get your dog?

We’d both grown up with dogs and were finally in a settled position to adopt our own. We always wanted a rescue dog.

Your Dog’s Breed or Mixed

Lurcher, greyhound/deerhound

How did you decide on your dog’s name?

Doris was an old family name, it just suited her as she was very blue-grey as a puppy.

What is your dog’s favorite toy?

Her huge caterpillar that she sleeps with.

What is your dog’s favorite treat?

Cheese, any cheese, and Yorkshire puddings.

How do you spoil your dog?

Well, Doris would say she isn’t spoilt but apart from sleeping in the bedroom she does everything with us. Cheese, naturally, is her treat of choice.

What’s a funny story about your dog or how does your dog make you laugh?

Like most pointy noses she sleeps in ridiculous positions, sings and listens to our conversations. She’s a proper madam and numpty.

How do you have fun and play with your dog?

Doris is partial to a game of fetch and living near a beach makes things very easy. Playing chase around furniture is also good fun.

Is there anything special or unique about your dog? If so, what is it?

Doris claims to understand exactly what we are saying at all times. One day she’ll speak…. sure of it!

What else would you like to share about your dog?

Doris is a therapy dog at our local clinic. She provides a meet and greet service for X-ray, cardiac and the blood clinic which is hugely popular. When she makes a worried patient smile it’s a special moment. Oh, and of course, there is always cheese at the café.

Look at her sweet face! It’s easy to see how she brings a smile to the people at the clinic.
