Meet Chase!
He’s a gorgeous and happy whippet. He was quite mischievous and destructive as a puppy but grew to be a well-mannered and fun-loving dog. Chase enjoys running, playing, traveling, and tasty treats. Keep reading to find out more about this wonderful whippet.
Check out these fun facts about him as told by his human mom, Linda.
Why did you get your dog?
I was so sad after my first whippet died, so I contacted the breeder to see if she had any puppies coming up. She had two bitches ready to give birth within a few weeks. My husband and I went to see the puppies when they were a few weeks old and picked our sweet Chase, and brought him home at 3 months of age.
Your Dog’s Breed
Whippet
How did you decide on your dog’s name?
We knew that whippets can run very fast, and they chase squirrels and birds, etc., so it seemed like an appropriate name. It turns out that other dogs chase him, because he can outrun any dog but a greyhound.
What is your dog’s favorite toy?
Kong chew toys
What is your dog’s favorite treat?
Peanut butter
How do you spoil your dog?
Chase lets us know when he wants something by giving a faint, high pitched bark. If it’s in the morning or evening and he’s in the kitchen, he wants to eat. If it’s in the early afternoon, it’s time for chicken. If he barks in the late afternoon by the door, it’s time for a walk. I think he can tell time. Of course, we acquiesce to what he wants.
What’s a funny story about your dog or how does your dog make you laugh?
Let’s see, he must have enjoyed eating my $8,000 hearing aids because after I replaced them, he got ahold of one of the those and ate it, too (I laid it down for maybe 3 minutes). He got into a bag of graphite in the garage and chewed it up on my oriental rug in the entryway. He also chewed up my brand new hiking shoes and numerous slippers. Oh yes, he chewed up some prescription glasses. I could go on and on about toilet paper, etc. Every time we leave the house we have to think like a dog thinks.
How do you have fun and play with your dog?
He is very affectionate. He will sit beside me and put his paws around my neck, like he’s giving me a hug. I say, “give me a hug” and he does. He follows me everywhere in the house and I sing songs to him that I make up, with his name in them. If I need to do something outside, I say, ” I need a helper boy”, and he comes running. He runs right beside me with his head by my hand so I can rub his ears. Of course, I throw a ball and he runs like the wind and then brings it back.
Is there anything special or unique about your dog? If so, what is it?
Chase is very protective. I believe he would protect me from harm if I were in danger. He barks at strangers at our house until you tell him it’s ok. Once a refrigerator repairman came to the house who did not look very nice and I acted startled. Chase never made up with that man. This is not typical whippet behavior. Otherwise, he is very well socialized and friendly to everyone.
What else would you like to share about your dog?
This dog is so much fun. He runs laps in the back yard. He runs in the sprinklers. He is a good traveler. He’s the best dog we’ve ever had. Whatever he did as a puppy is all forgiven, and we love him immensely. He’s almost 2 years old now and just about the perfect dog.
Many thanks to Linda for sharing the fun of your sweet dog, Chase!
