Callie joined our family in June 2024. She’s a gorgeous red brindle whippet and such a sweetie! Adopting another dog was the last thing I ever thought would happen. But, in an unexpected and surprising turn of events, we adopted a rescue that needed a good home.
Callie’s official name is Calliope, Goddess of Music, Song, and Dance. And, I can tell you that she is certainly being treated like a goddess now. Yep, another ridiculously spoiled hound.
So how did this all come about? Here’s the short story:
One day my husband asked if I had ever thought about getting another dog, either a puppy or rescue. Of course, my answer was yes. But I never brought it up because he was always a big, hard NO about it. He said since he retired and has been spending more time with the dogs, that he’d be open to getting another one.
That planted the seed. I started looking for available puppies and filled out an application to adopt from Whippet Rescue and Placement. I got a call the next day from WRAP. There was a 10 year old female that needed a stable home. We discussed it and about a week later, we picked up Callie. It all happened so fast.
Callie sure did need a good, stable home. She was in poor condition when we got her. She was terribly underweight, almost emaciated. She had giardia, an internal parasite. And she showed signs of not being treated well. She was craving loving attention.
My mission was to get her healthy, at a good weight, and feel loved – living like a goddess should. You can see the difference in these comparison photos:
Milo and Luke welcomed her so wonderfully into the pack. And what’s funny is how she rules over them and she’s so much smaller than the boys. She’s about 27 pounds and they are 40 pounds.
One of her favorite things to do is sunning. She’s so happy lying on the grass and soaking up the sun.
Or watching for anything to happen outside or looking for critters. She’s a hunter for sure. She’s already caught a few lizards and a frog.
And, oh my goodness, at how she loves treats. She absolutely knows that word. If she won’t come in when we call her because she’s too busy sunning, all we have to do is ask her if she wants a treat. Her ears perk up and she comes running.
Callie sure did bring a whole lot of love into our home. It was meant to be. She’ll live the rest of her life being spoiled and very much loved.
