5 Fun Ways to Celebrate Love Your Pet Day

Renee Dobbs · February 19, 2019 · 4 Comments

Yes, there is a day designated for loving your pet. Or rather a day to give your pet an extra helping of love, affection, and spoiling (of course!). Love Your Pet Day has been celebrated for almost 2 decades. Someone picked February 20th as the date. Who? No one can figure out who got it started. Nevertheless, it’s fun and time spent with pets is good for the soul.

How to celebrate Love Your Pet Day with a dog:

1 – Go on an adventurous walk. Take a different path than usual. Your dog will enjoy all the new smells and sights along the way.

Invite a friend and their dog to go along on the walk. Or meet up with friends at a dog park. Doggy playtime can be bundles of fun. Just make sure everyone has dogs that play and interact well with others.

2 – Make a homemade treat for your dog. Some are really easy to do. You can make a 1-ingredient treat by freezing plain yogurt in ice cube trays or silicone dog treat molds.

I also have a roundup list of awesome homemade dog treat recipes. They are ones I curated from incredible food bloggers. The treats in the photo above are called “Homemade Dog Love” and one of the recipes in the list.

3 – Get a new toy for your dog. My hounds love new toys. They get so excited and go crazy playing with new toys. They still have their favorites though. Funny how a dog can have a favorite toy.

Here is a list of my favorite dog toys you can get on Amazon. Clicking on the toy name will take you directly to Amazon where you can see and purchase the toy.

  • Donut Toy
  • Monkey Toy
  • Octopus Toy
  • Pizza Slice Toy
  • Spot ZooYoos Toy (see my ZooYoos review)
  • Rabbit Toy

4 – Take photos of your dog. Capture fun playtime to save and share. You’ll love having those photos to show off your dog to everyone. Photos are the best memory keepers. Years later you’ll be glad you have the pictures to look at and remember the good times.

5 – Make your dog a social media star. Set up an account for your dog on ZooPix. It’s like Instagram and just for pets. It’s a bunch of fun! You can enter your dog in the weekly pet show and there are nice prizes for the winners. See my ZooPix review for more details.
