Ingredients

  • 2 large russet potatoes
  • 4 medium carrots
  • 2 lamb shanks
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh green beans
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth without onions or garlic
  • 1/4 cup chopped curly parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 300°F.
  • Peel and chop the potatoes into small cubes. Peel and slice the carrots. Cut the green beans into bite-sized pieces.
  • Place lamb, potatoes, carrots, green beans, and beef broth into a casserole dish. Cover with a lid or foil.
  • Bake for 3 1/2 hours. Uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until the meat feels tender.
  • Remove the meat from the bones and shred or chop it. Discard the bones. Add the meat back to the dish and stir to combine with the vegetables. Top with chopped parsley.
  • Allow to cool completely before serving.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Notes

Do not use beef broth that contains onions or garlic. Dog-safe beef broth is available at pet stores or online (Chewy). Or make homemade beef broth.
Do not use Italian flat-leaf parsley because it can cause dermatitis and be toxic.
Do not give cooked bones to dogs because they can splinter and cause serious internal injuries.
