Dog Treat Mix in a Jar

Quick to assemble, beautiful to gift, and delicious for your pup, this homemade dog treat mix in a jar makes carob dog treats.

Equipment

  • 3 cup capacity glass jar with a lid

Ingredients

For the mix

  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1 cup brown rice flour
  • 1/2 cup carob powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened carob chips

To make the treats

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/3 cup natural creamy peanut butter
  • 1 egg

Instructions

For the mix

  • Layer ingredients in the jar one at a time in the order listed.
  • Seal the jar with the lid.
  • Decorate the jar as desired.

To make the treats

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • In a medium bowl, combine dry ingredients from the jar.
  • In a large bowl, add all wet ingredients and mix until well combined.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and combine into a dough.
  • With a rolling pin, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thickness.
  • Using a cookie cutter, cut out the treats and place them on a non-stick or parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool.

Notes

Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, an artificial sweetener toxic to dogs.
The mix will make about 28 treats but that will vary depending on the size of the cookie cutter used. Nutrition information is for the whole batch of dry mix only.
