Sweet Potato Cake for Dogs

This sweet potato cake is a special homemade dessert for dogs made with simple ingredients and fluffy cream cheese frosting. Perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 sweet potato (enough for 1 cup peeled and chopped)
  • 3/4 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 5 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 egg
  • 8 ounces low-fat cream cheese room temperature

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8- or 9-inch cake pan.
  • Peel and chop the sweet potato. Place the chopped potato in a saucepan and add enough water to cover 1 inch. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium, and cook until fork-tender. Strain the potatoes and let them cool completely.
  • Place the oat flour, cinnamon and ginger in a bowl and stir or whisk to combine.
  • Place 1 cup sweet potatoes, honey, peanut butter, applesauce, and egg in a food processor and process until smooth.
  • Add the flour mixture and process until combined and smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and spread it out evenly.
  • Bake for 18-22 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove the cake from the pan, place it on a wire rack, and allow it to cool completely.
  • Place the cream cheese in a bowl and use a mixer to whip the cream cheese until fluffy. Spread the whipped cream cheese over cooled cake.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Notes

Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, an artificial sweetener toxic to dogs.
