With how many delicious fruits there are out there, and the health benefits they have for humans, it’s tempting to want to share a few with your pup too.
While most of us can enjoy all the fruits we please, dogs don’t have that luxury. Some fruits are great for dogs and make a great healthy snack, but others need to be kept far away from their mouths.
Luckily I have for you a comprehensive list of fruits dogs can and can’t eat!

Berries
Can dogs eat blackberries?
Most berries are safe for dogs to eat and blackberries are no different. Blackberries are loaded with antioxidants, and also have plenty of fiber and vitamins.
You just might want to make sure they aren’t on any stainable surfaces when eating this tasty treat. They are fantastic for your dog’s immune system. Due to the high sugar content, it’s a good idea to only give your pet small quantities.

Can dogs eat blueberries?
You can put blueberries on the safe list! These vibrant summer berries make a great safe treat for your dog. They’re also low in calories and sugar making them a healthy treat alternative as well. They are a fantastic source of vitamin A and vitamins C.
Can dogs eat grapes?
This might be one you’ve already been warned about before. Dogs can absolutely not have any grapes or raisins. They contain a toxic substance that can cause kidney failure in dogs and should be avoided at all costs.
Don’t panic if your dog snags one or two that fall on the floor at some point though. A micro amount once in a blue moon will not shut down their kidneys. It’s the regular consumption that will cause problems.
Can dogs eat kiwi?
As long as you peel and cut the kiwi into small bites, it’s safe to give to your dog. They don’t provide any real nutritional value to dogs, but it’s not on the list of foods to avoid. They can definitely be used as a fun treat to mix up their snacks occasionally.

Can dogs eat raspberries?
Raspberries make a great treat for dogs! The fiber found in raspberries is great for overweight dogs. It helps them feel full on smaller amounts of food and fewer calories. They are a wonderful source of vitamins A and C.
Can dogs eat strawberries?
No need to keep your pup away from one of summer’s favorite berries. Strawberries have some characteristics and nutrients that may be good for your dogs like Fiber and Vitamin C.
Just be sure to cut the stems off and cut them into small pieces before giving any to a dog of any size. Since they are high in natural sugars it is also a good idea to share it with them as an occasional treat.
Use any of the safe berries to make a fruit tart for dogs.
Citrus
Can dogs eat lemons?
You definitely don’t want to give your dog a lemon, and odds are they don’t want one anyway. Dogs don’t enjoy the taste of sour citrus fruits, especially lemons.
Not to mention, some of the compounds and aromatic oils in lemons can upset their stomachs. Lemon seeds could be a choking hazard for small sensitive dogs. If your dog eats a lemon, watch for signs of an allergic reaction, such as itching, coughing, or sneezing.

Just like lemons, limes can be toxic to dogs, so it’s best to keep them away from this fruit. Consumption of any part of the lime, leaves, peel, or fruit can cause the dog to become ill.

Can dogs eat oranges?
With oranges being another high acidity fruit they aren’t the best for dogs to consume. While they aren’t toxic, they are high in sugars and can potentially cause an upset stomach if your pet eats too many of them. This is especially true for small dogs.
Can dogs eat pineapple?
Unlike the other human foods on this list, fresh pineapple is very safe for dogs to consume. The fruit is a natural anti-inflammatory, full of vitamin C and dietary fiber.

Melons
Can dogs eat cantaloupe?
When it comes to fresh fruits, this is one of the best for your canine companion. Cantaloupe is known to be able to help improve your dog’s eyesight. It’s also a good source of vitamins B-6 and C, fiber, folate, niacin, and potassium
Be sure to only feed them bites of the flesh they can easily chew and swallow.
Can dogs eat watermelon?
Watermelon, just like cantaloupe, is completely safe for your furry friend. The only other factor to watch out for is the seeds. They can cause an intestinal blockage, so make sure you remove them. The high water content is good for dogs that are thirsty on a hot day.
Also, don’t let them just chew on the rind as their stomachs can’t digest it and will likely cause an upset stomach.
Pome Fruit
Can dogs eat apples?
Apples are another one on the list that’s a safe fruit for your dog to eat. wonderful crunchy treats for your dog. They are non-toxic and make for a tasty snack your dog will love
However be sure to never let your dog have a whole apple, and chew on the core. Apple seeds contain small amounts of cyanide which can be toxic if consumed in large quantities.
Can dogs eat pears?
Pears are perfectly safe for dogs to eat. Just cut the pears into bite-sized pieces and monitor your dog carefully as he/she eats to prevent choking.
Stone Fruit or Drupes
Can dogs eat apricots?
When it comes to apricots, only the flesh is safe for dogs to eat. The seeds, leaves, pit, and stem can be toxic, and should not be eaten.

Can dogs eat avocado?
Avocados don’t fall under the never category, but if once in a while you slip the pooch small portions of avocado as you make your guac, they’ll be fine.
In large amounts, it can cause vomiting and diarrhea, so it shouldn’t be used as a regular treat. You should also keep the pit away from your dog because it is a choking hazard and could get stuck in their digestive tract.
Can dogs eat cherries?
It’s best to stay away from cherries for your dog’s safety. Not only does the pit pose a choking threat, but every part of the fruit also contains cyanide which is toxic to dogs.
Can dogs eat coconut?
Never just give your dog a whole unopened coconut, but you can feed them coconut meat. The coconut meat is just as healthy, if not more so than the coconut oil alone, which can already be given to dogs for a number of uses.
Can dogs eat mango?
Mangos fall under the category of fruits that should still be served in moderation, and not served for specific health benefits. Your dog is completely fine to consume small quantity slices, but it should be looked at as a treat, not a healthy snack.

As long as you remove the pit first, your dog can safely eat any type of peach. When served in moderation, it can help promote good eye, skin, and immune health.
Can dogs eat plums?
The flesh of a plum is fine, but never give your dog a whole plum. Dogs cannot digest the pit of a plum, so if they consume it the sharp pit can cause damage to the esophagus, stomach, or intestines.

Tropical Fruit
Can dogs eat bananas?
Bananas are the perfect snack to keep on hand to feed your dog in place of a fatty store-bought treat. They are high in potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C.
Can dogs eat figs?
Raw figs can be okay, but stay clear of dried figs. Dried fruits can cause stomach upset, diarrhea, or vomiting, along with occasional rashes, sores, or inflammation on their mouth or tongue.
